Go D.J.: Emery went out of his way Thursday to praise middle
linebacker D.J. Williams, even though the 10-year veteran missed
much of training camp with a calf injury, then landed on injured
reserve in Week 6 with a torn pectoral muscle.
Emery lauded Williams' motor, leadership and ability to
galvanize those around him. That might indicate the Bears'
intent to bring Williams back with his current one-year contract
expiring in March. Earlier in the week, Williams made it clear
he was not interested in testing the open market if he could
reach a fair deal with the Bears.
"I'm ready to talk now," Williams, 31, said. "That's up to them.
I don't want to play games and the whole bit."
Bostic moving? If Williams returns in 2014, that could mean a
move outside for second-round pick Jon Bostic, who made 10
starts at middle linebacker as a rookie but might be, in Emery's
eyes, better suited outside because he struggled at times
reading, reacting and searching through blocks.
Emery called Bostic "a hit-and-run player (who) can unload on
another player in space and produce an impact tackle."
"That's best," Emery said, "when you're coming from the outside
downhill across the field or the backside of a formation."
Re-signing DJ Williams and moving Bostic outside is exactly what
I'd like to see done.
Emery wants to re-sign center Roberto Garza for a 10th season
with the Bears. Garza will turn 35 in March. "He got a lot
better with his overall body position and his head-placement,"
Emery said. "He's obviously very important in terms of calling
signals for our offensive line and making point adjustments."
Surprises me a little bit, but not terribly. The OL was a bright
point this year.

DJ in the middle, Bostic at SAM and a healthy and motivated
Briggs wouldn't be a bad trio.
Or if Briggs is no longer healthy and/or motivated, trade him
and go with DJ in the middle and Anderson and Bostic on the
outside.
The thing is though, DJ's injury was pretty serious and he's not
exactly a spring chicken anymore.
Greene is the odd man in either of those scenarios but from what
I can tell he is at least another year away from being a
legitimate starter.

Although Briggs may have a couple years left in the tank, I
seriously doubt anyone would give anything for him in a trade.

They are already paying big bucks for Revis and that D. There is
no way they pick up those two contracts too.

What would you give for Peppers and Briggs? I sure wouldn't
give too much, especially for Peppers.

consider taking Peppers salary off your hands.

How about picks?? They're at the end of their careers and we
need fresh bodies badly. Fricking Angielow really screwed us and
we're playing catch-up

Tampa is rebuilding. Why would they give up picks and take on 2
old vets and their huge salaries?
