I am really concerned about the injury risk to high school arms,
but am even more concerned about a college pitcher who has still
not learned command and control. I find myself leaning towards
either of the high school pitchers, Aiken or Kolek, rather than
any of the college pitchers that have exhibited command
problems, such as Rodon, Beede or Hoffman.
However, I believe it is extremely likely (if the draft were
held today. A lot can change in the next month and a half) that
both Aiken and Kolek will be gone. If so, I hope the Cubs
scouting staff can identify which college pitcher is most likely
to be cured of his command problems. My gut feeling is Hoffman,
but that is based upon even more ignorance than usual.
Historically, the greatest risk of failure in the draft has been
high school catchers. For this reason, I hope they don't take
Jackson, or if they do, I hope it isn't as a catcher.

If they take Jackson, I think they'll need to like his bat so
well that they'll be happy with him in corner outfield.

Right. I think the HS catcher failure rate is mostly drafting
guys who have projectable catching skills---and then they just
       don't hit.
So, yes, taking Jackson would be drafting a guy based on his hit
tool. Doubtful too many clubs would try to develop him as a
catcher. (Bryce Harper was a catcher too). But, would be
interesting if Cubs went the catching route with him. Would not
be too concerned with the HS failure rate, as he would be
drafted in that scenario as an offensive guy with a first shot
as a catcher, like Bryant at 3B. And, if doesn't work out, off
       to a corner spot.

When they renovate Wrigley, they need to add a few more outfield
corners to accommodate all of our outfielders (including our
excess infielders who will be converted to OF). I realize most
prospects fail, but if we have to draft another OF, please make
sure he bats left-handed. Even if Jackson is the BPA at #4, I'd
       rather have a pitcher.

I agree. But even then, high school position players are a
       substantial risk also.

Hoffman tonight in 8 shutout innings gave up 3 hits, walked 1
and struck out 16. So, yeah, if he's there at 4 and the Cubs nab
       him, that could be a-ok.
