This might end up being really interesting at the top of the
draft.
Does Rodon start flashing his plus stuff again and jump back
into #1?
Do Kolek/Aiken go 1/2?
Can Gatewood/Jackson jump into top 5 consideration.
Does it make sense to go the Astros route and save money at the
top of the draft and after the hard throwing prep arms that is
the strength of the draft? Can Beede right his ship? So many
questions in what was supposed to be a pretty settled top of the
draft.

The N.C. State @ Clemson game is being streamed live on
WatchESPN.com.
Carlos Rodon, sporting the high stirrup look, is pitching for
N.C. State. His line so-far is:

Trea Turner is 0-2.
Clemson leads 2-1 after 5 1/2 innings.

No, I hadn't seen that writeup, Shasson.
I was pretty impressed with Hoffman. Saw more of his outing in a
replay. He's so wiry that his mechanics can get thrown off. The
announcers noted that he would occasionally rush and lose his
release point, but I think that can be mostly relieved with
innings. He threw some secondary pitches that completely fooled
the ump and the batter.
As for Rodon, I had questions about him even when he was
dominating as a Fr. I always thought he pushed the ball to the
plate with odd mechanics. Stuff was always good though.

Not a good day for the North Carolina State Wolfpack as they
lose 6-1 to the Clemson Tigers.
Trea Turner: 0-3, BB, K, and two errors at SS.
Carlos Rodon: 8 11 6 3 0 5
Rodon also pinch hit with bases loaded 2 outs in the 9th and
grounded out to first to end the game.

N.C. State beat #15 Clemson 9-4. Trea Turner with his first
career four-hit game as he had four singles in 5 at-bats with
two RBI. Carlos Rodon PH/DH was 0-2.

Seems like the current conventional wisdom among some of the
draft guys who have an ear out to the scouts is that the top
three guys right now (with almost 2 months to the draft!), in no
order, are Kolek, Aiken, and Hoffman, with Rodon a tick behind
at the moment. Guessing that all could change with one dominant
Rodon outing in the near future.
So, seems maybe a decent chance that Rodon might be available to
Cubs, along with Beede and Grant Holmes, a not-tall HS pitcher
with command and stuff.
Where are the position players? Listened to scouts.com recent
podcast and they said that Alex Jackson, the catcher, is
dropping a bit and may be more of a mid-1st rounder at the
moment. Everyone seems to think that Trea Turner has dropped
substantially. Gatewood dropped some time ago. Evidently, the
top or near-top position player at the moment is college lefty
batting OFer Brad Zimmer. As it happens, I went to two Cape Cod
league games last summer and saw Zimmer in one of them. Lanky
tall guy, seems like a corner guy (played CF) with projection
but I don't see Cubs taking him over one of the pitchers.
Of course, scouts love the lanky, tall pitchers with
projection--and Rodon isn't one of those types. But, unless
he's injured, seems like Cubs could use a guy who may be
relatively close to majors and figures to be at least a #3
starter. And, a lefty too. Guessing that Rodon picks it up and
is off the board before #4, but will be interesting to see how
it plays out.

Rodon does have a back issue going back to high school that his
delivery may put pressure on. I had heard Gatewood was showing
an increased hit tool and was rising.

It was interesting to see him mention a foot injury for Turner
last year effecting his speed, and presumably his SB totals.

He had an ankle injury last year that limited his speed. He is
supposed to be healthy this year, but his times have been
slower.

Most interested in who is in top 5 or 6 consideration. If
Gatewood is rising, is it fair to say maybe getting back into
middle of 1st round consideration (and not top 5/6)?
