48 K/1 BB doesn't speak to command. But there are a lot of HS
power arms who couldn't go 5 innings without a walk even if
there was no batter in the box. To consistently throw three
strikes before at least sometimes miss four times says
something.
It's too bad that the draft is shaping up so poorly thus far.
Rodon, Beede, Hoffman, three college arms who looked potentially
very solid at the start all struggling. Turner who was a
popular name at the beginning struggling. Last year Gray was
fabulous all spring, and while Appel wasn't as good he was still
pretty consistently solid. Not looking like that this spring,
that's for sure.

Control and command are different. Control is throwing strikes,
command is putting the ball where you want it to go. At the
high school level he just has to be some where close to the
plate and he's going to generate swing and misses.
Kolek could easily be the best pitcher is this draft. I just
have some reservations about him. If the Cubs draft him though,
I'll end up loving him.

Yes, control and command are different. But you're underselling
Kolek's performance - no matter how hard they throw, most
high-school pitchers couldn't put up the numbers he has so far
this season.

0.16 ERA. Career 1.1 bWAR.

I really don't care what his stats are against high school
players that won't likely get drafted let alone play in the
majors. Yes, he is dominating them. Yes, he has a great
fastball. He may put it all together some day, avoid injuries
and become a great pitcher. I will admit to all of that. I
also have limited footage of him. I saw him on TV in the Under
Armor game and looked at some PG footage. His fastball is all
over the place and his breaking ball gets hung a lot. If your
going to draft a high school pitcher, somebody like Aiken would
interest me more. A lefty who hits 97, with a plus curve, and
the makings of an above average change. His command isn't
mentioned as a problem like Kolek and he has a more projection
left in his frame at 6-5 190-205. High school pitchers are the
risky picks out there, so the less you have to teach them the
better.

It was also mentioned that in the first 15 innings he hit 6
batters. That might speak to both command and control.
