Getting to know your neighbors some, boredom in suburbia
By: solo Date: June 12, 2020, 11:18 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Anyone who lives in the city knows what I'm about to talk
about.....you can spend years somewhere, someone lives close,
you may never see let alone interact with them.
So today I get a package. We do a ton of Amazon stuff, so wife
let's me know if something is coming on that day, I check it
like a hawk. We are on a busier street, lots of foot traffic &
homeless passing through all of the time. And you know, some
people are going to steal shit.
So today like a second after a knock I'm outside, see UPS....
"Hey wrong address"
Drives away.
Well let's see where that was supposed to be delivered
precisely, start walking over. Hope they don't mind a big dude
with tats and looking like a lowlife showing up at their door.
Maybe I'll just put it out of sight and knock quietly and just
hope they see it later.
"Hey, did you just get that package?"
Before realizing it was coming from the house I was looking for.
An older lady & I start talking briefly, she got our package, we
got hers.
I thought that was kind of neat.

I have that a lot in my area. Heavy Russian/Polish immigrant
population and they do not interact much. I have a neighbor who
ordered a package to my house that arrived last week. I didn't
recognize the name and it had my unit on it. Further perplexed
I drew his name on it in big bold letters along with "I hope you
live here". He did. Thanked me just yesterday for being honest
and trying to get it to him. He said he had the right address
and amazon f'd up. But... I know that wasn't true.

It’s very urban where I live, yet deliveries are usually safe
left at the door. We have security cameras too.
Getting a dog made a big difference. I didn’t know any
neighbours at all. Now I know everyone. People yell out my name
as I walk by their house. Bizarre.

The lady I brought to package said she got a package the other
day belonging to someone else too.
We spoke about how some people get meds delivered etc.
I'm pretty sure this happens all of the time, even mail carriers
make mistakes but they walk the same route every day. So ideally
less mistakes.
I do order from amazon, normally I put into cart, wife when
ready completes the order. I'll ask her but I think it should be
auto if you have an account. If they have an account that they
have ordered from in the past it could be Amazon's mistake
right?

Where everyone knows your name?
Da da da da.
:chuckle:
Yeah dogs or kids make for good conversation ice breakers. I've
found it interesting how it seems certain people in the area end
up knowing each other at least a tad, then you don't seem to
ever see others at all.
But I kind of like chit chatting every now & then.
I remember at least in the areas I was at in the 80's, everyone
knew everyone pretty much close by. Not the case any more. But
now you don't even see kids outside playing for example. People
stay inside much more than they used to.

I have a lot of issues with Amazon to be honest. A lot of that
is likely where I live but... They have these new lockers
spread through the city you can get deliveries to. It's my new
favorite because it doesn't rely on the ambition of the delivery
person.

Lots of prostitutes when I moved here, it’s the hooker and
naughty zone, now it’s full of families and kids, so it’s a bit
chic and glamorous. I still encounter some hookers walking the
dog, this one in particular is always smashed, got her nipples
exposed and close to her vag out, but she is a sweetheart.
Screams out she loves me.. lol. Then I see guys dropping her off
in Porsche’s outside my place.

My Postman is a moron.
I get other ppls mail all the time. Packages included.
So I have to assume my mail gets lost too.
Like this past paycheck took 12 days to get here from brooklyn.
That's an over night delivery
When I get someone's mail I usually hand deliver them.
Barely a thank you. So I stopped.
I just pop it back into a mail box. Some are big packages
though.
I leave them for schlub to take back. He Forgets for 3 days.
As for meeting neighbors... Famous ppl live over here by me.
Same when I lived in Tokyo.
The chances of you bumping into that one person are
astronomical, but there was this one day in Tokyo.. I'll never
forget it.
I was out running errands.
If I wasn't off with my BF, I ran around all day usually.
His life was so hectic, time to just veg was rare.
Here, I like to just sit at home.
There, I always wanted to be OUT, even during cold months.
So I was out this day, and I went from.. I want to say, our hood
in meguro, to kichijoji to koenji to shinjuku to shibuya...
I walked past of the way, trained it the other.
And there was this one guy.
He was one of the typical rasta like guys there.
Funky hair, clothes. Hard to forget the look...
I bumped into this guy, 5 times that day.
Everywhere I went, he seemed to appear. Weirdest thing. Only
time in my life I ever experienced it too.
Then, years ago, there was this guy I had a crush on at a
hospital here.
He was a respiratory therapist. He rarely worked the ER, but
when he did, I'd just oogle him.
Took me almost a year to get up the nerve to talk to him.
When we finally did talk, turns out, he grew up 3 blocks away
from me.
His house was my favorite too. It had an actual well on the
front lawn. I always wanted to know the kids that lived there,
so we could play by the well...
So he was 3 blocks away most of my life, but I had to work on an
ambulance in another Boro to meet him.
And yes we did date. His mum didn't like me though. Too pale.
Yes really. His ethnic make up was quite unusual.
And he was as pale as I am, color wise. Huge blue eyes too...
He married a girl, just like the girl, that married dear old
dad.
His mom made sure of it.
