the “best and brightest” from Harvard would drum home again and
again to the media: privatization equals reform. The piece

“Once you work with Russians for two weeks, you become a
free-market enthusiast.”
As more becomes known about the laundering of Russian money in
Western banks, many in the United States will likely try to hide

After seven years of economic “reform” financed by billions of
dollars in U.S. and other Western aid, subsidized loans and
rescheduled debt, the majority of Russian people find themselves
worse off economically. The privatization drive that was
supposed to reap the fruits of the free market instead helped to
create a system of tycoon capitalism run for the benefit of a
corrupt political oligarchy that has appropriated hundreds of
millions of dollars of Western aid and plundered Russia’s
wealth.
The architect of privatization was former First Deputy Prime
Minister Anatoly Chubais, a darling of the U.S. and Western
financial establishments. Chubais’s drastic and corrupt
stewardship made him extremely unpopular. According to The New
York Times, he “may be the most despised man in Russia.”
Essential to the implementation of Chubais’s policies was the
enthusiastic support of the Clinton Administration and its key
representative for economic assistance in Moscow, the Harvard
Institute for International Development. Using the prestige of
Harvard’s name and connections in the Administration, H.I.I.D.
officials acquired virtual carte blanche over the U.S. economic
aid program to Russia, with minimal oversight by the government
agencies involved. With this access and their close alliance
with Chubais and his circle, they allegedly profited on the
side. Yet few Americans are aware of H.I.I.D.’s role in Russian
privatization, and its suspected misuse of taxpayers’ funds...

When the Soviet Union cracked up, American journalist Anne
Williamson was a popular freelancer on all things Russian for
the Wall Street Journal and other prestigious outlets. A major
New York publisher signed her to a contract for a book on Russia
in 1993. But when she finally delivered a manuscript in 1997
predicting that the Russian bond market would crash in 1998
(which it did), nobody in the publishing world would touch it.
Williamson believes that her criticism of the Clinton
Administration and, especially, of George Soros made it
radioactive. According to a 2001 essay in the New York Review of
Books, Williamson’s unpublished book was “widely read in
manuscript.”
By the way, all this interest in Russia recently reminds me of
an old mystery from before the recent economic unpleasantness:
the Harvard endowment grew in the 1990s at a rate that would
seem to call into question the hallowed Efficient Markets
Theorem. When asked to share tips for how you too could achieve
such a high ROI, Harvard’s gnomes usually made vague noises
about investing in timber.
It finally occurred to me that during this period, Harvard was,
coincidentally enough, being paid by American taxpayers to
advise the government of Russia how to privatize its vast
holdings. Indeed, this process went so swimmingly for Harvard
that in 2001 Harvard made the Clinton Administration’s central
manager of Russian policy, Larry Summers, its president...

He funded them for 5 years actually. 2 grants of 3.7 million
were given.
One in 2015 and one in 2019.
Bringing the total to 7.4 million usd.

their research on coronaviruses in bats. The same research is
now being probed as a possible source of accidental leakage of
coronavirus, which is suspected to have started from Wuhan lab.
The funds granted to the lab were for work on gain-of-function
research on coronaviruses in bats. The NIAID is known to support
the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in providing $3.7
million in funds over six years for research. The organization
further assisted with $3.7 million funds to collect and study
bat coronaviruses and the 5-year project ended in 2019. This
makes it a total of $7.4 million in funds for a gain of function
research.

The emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus

underscores the threat of cross-species transmission events
leading to outbreaks in humans. Here we examine the disease
potential of a SARS-like virus, SHC014-CoV, which is currently
circulating in Chinese horseshoe bat populations1. Using the
SARS-CoV reverse genetics system2, we generated and
characterized a chimeric virus expressing the spike of bat
coronavirus SHC014 in a mouse-adapted SARS-CoV backbone.

Fauci has been on the job for quite a long time.
The research continued well into Trumps term too, who didn't
seem to care much about it at the time.
Perhaps it was a 'national security' issue.
