The Humble Bacon Butty
By: Beelzeboop Date: June 15, 2020, 8:28 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
This was trial and error for me .
I experimented with a lot of different presentations and
ingredients .
I eventually found the best combo for me .
To be even about it ,here's a link ,with 5 ways the bacon butty
is done in the UK .
Definitely check it out .Look nummy.
HTML https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/5-ways-bacon-sandwiches
I was going to just add this to the food thread, but it deserves
it own .
I will however ,add the link to the food thread .
UK bacon ,is not like USA bacon .
Not really.
Its sort of a cross between usa bacon ,and Canadian bacon .
Its thick ,lots of fat .
You Don't cook it to USA crispy perfection .
It retains a more meaty quality .
That being said , I love USA bacon ,so I just bought thick cut
,and did a very slow cook . So fry up a couple of juicy pieces
,but
I did a couple of pieces crispy too . Cook the last 2 slices to
a bit more of a crisp.
So I put both cooks in my butty .
So cook up the bacon .Slow ,low heat .
Get it tender and slightly crispy .
For one butty ,I do at least 4 big fat slices
5 is better .
Then the Bread . Gotta be a nice soft, but crusty, bread .
White bread ...hell no.
A French roll or thick slices of a round Italian boule.
Yeah .
And I toast both sides of that sucker .
After the bacon is done cooking ,pour off the grease ,wipe the
pan mostly clean .
Add a pat of butter .Melt it up ..
Plop the bread Right in the pan .low heat .
Toast it lightly both sides .
Set aside with the cooked bacon .
Now this is optional , but hey why not .
Fry up one egg . Nice and set .no runny white ,but a good liquid
yolk left .
Now, to assemble :
One slice bread ,
Top with a thin layer of HP Sauce .
I prefer original HP in a butty .(I use the fruity HP for
shepherds pie)
Plop the bacon on top .I'll do 2 or 2 and a half slicez of bacon
here .
I rip it up to fit mostly inside the bread edges .
Then ,a dolop of HP Sauce again .
A sprinkle of black pepper .
Plop the fried egg on top of that .Top that with the rest of the
bacon .
Again ,thin layer HP on the second bread slice .
Top the whole thing with that last piece of bread .
SQUEEZE it all together ...
Eat over a huge plate to catch all the yummy drippings ,as you
don't want to lose a drop .

For the record ,its all subject to preference .
Some ppl never add the egg .
Some use ketchup and or worstershire sauce instead of HP.
Ill forgo the egg too sometimes , but it has to be HP sauce for
me
CHEERS !

You can find these in some markets without problem , but they
are imported .
Not everyone carries it , but ,easily purchased on amazon .
You can use fruity on a butty .
I love the fruity actually , but original is more traditional
