New research provides evidence that one’s perceived dating
popularity can affect attitudes towards wealth redistribution.
In the study, the researchers had 1,108 single U.S. adults
create a dating profile purportedly to test a new dating
website. As part of this process, the participants provided
information about themselves and their ideal dating partner.
They were then told that an algorithm had calculated the number
of people who matched their “ideal partner” description along
with the percentage of “ideal partners” who would be willing to
date them. In reality, however, there was no algorithm at work.
The researchers randomly matched different participants with
       different numbers.
In particular, those led to believe they were popular with
hundreds of their ideal partners were more likely to agree with
statements such as “The minimum wage should be raised” and “The
government should adopt a policy to guarantee health care to all
       workers and their families.”
“Participants manipulated to believe they were popular with
hundreds of people may have reported higher support for wealth
redistribution than others because they may have been less
concerned with accumulating resources to compete in the mating
market than others,” the researchers explained in their study.

The sociopolitical attitudes were reduced to five dimensions via
       Principal Components Analysis (Sociosexuality, Benevolent
Sexism, Wealth Redistribution, Nonconforming Behaviors, and
Traditional Family Values). Both manipulations affected
attitudes toward wealth redistribution but were largely not
significant predictors of the other dimensions.

Talking some with my wife about this now.
I'm sure it may annoy some people overall. But the key word here
is perceived. From perceived I make some leap of faith
       assumptions.
For example, if you are in the popularity club and found as
desirable, then of course it could be relaxing. But what if you
       take this a little further.
If you are a follower of the latest fad, then get the
psychological reward for being desirable in the group. You
behave or believe whatever local societal pressures out there.
Yes even the propagandized ones, the marketers etc.....
There is a lot of pondering nuance about this that amuses me.

Bernays knew this. Suck on this liberty stick and declare for
suffragette city while you're at it... :yeah:
The marketplace is for your mind and all it costs is a little
piece of your soul at a time.
and it all starts the day one is born...
       Evolution.
Nikolaas Tinbergen's concept of "supernormal stimulus" explains
why humans are attracted to a heightened version of reality.
According to Pornhub's annual statistics, "hentai" and
"cartoons" were among the most popular categories in 2018.
Such pornography is a supernormal stimulus, an artificial
object that triggers an animal's instinctual response more
       intensely than natural analogs.
Supernormal stimuli not only explain our heightened response
to pornography, but also art, junk food, and social media.
Every year Pornhub, the world's largest pornography website,
releases annual statistics detailing the trends in online porn.
Some takeaways from 2018? A staggering 4,403 petabytes of data
transferred, the United States is the largest porn consumer (by
a huge margin), and Stormy Daniels is the most searched for
person (just brushing up on current events).
Nestled among the categories and search terms is a word that may
       seem oddly foreign: hentai.
If you've never heard of hentai, you're not alone. This loanword
from Japan is less well-known than other Japanese words like
sushi, samurai, tsunami, and typhoon, yet produces more Google
results than any of them. In its mother tongue, the word denotes
a perverse or extreme sexual situation. After the word leapt the
Pacific, it came to represent erotic comics and animations in
       the Japanese style.
Despite its unfamiliarity to many, hentai was Pornhub's second
most searched for term of 2018 and one of its most popular
categories. Some may dismiss this new trend with a snide, "Yeah,
but Japan, amiright?" But they are wrong.
Japan certainly has a history of illustrated erotica — shunga,
such as "The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife" by Hokusai, is
perhaps the most famous example — but it is hardly the only
culture to compose drawings meant to stimulate more than the
       imagination.
