An excellent point. I don't see why the OP's sister can't tell

I am the OP. Now she (my sister) has told people how they can
best support her. Her treatment is going well and she is being
supported in fantastic ways. When I initially posted it was like
the day before her first chemo when the last thing my sister
needed was one more thing to stress about. I was running
interference in that unique window of time.
My sister is nearing the end of the first round of chemo, then
another round, then radiation, then surgery. Her family and
friends have been coordinating to provide rides for the kids and
support in all ways.

Probably because she has to give up her privacy and rest to do
so.

so.

And it's also an awful lot of physical work and emotional labor
to contact all the people who need to hear it. She'd got other
things on her mind.
("She" being "the average health-scare patient")
