I have wide, and large, feet, women's size 14. I just found a
site that has shoes that fit me, called Roaman's. Perhaps there
may be something there that will work for you. Also, I looked at
Retailmenot(dot)com and found a coupon code for 40% off my
shoes, so with shipping, it was $25.48 total. They were simple
flats, just want I wanted.

I have a very tall cousin who had trouble finding shoes,
especially party shoes, in her large size. Another cousin
suggested she look at catalogs and web sites directed to drag
queens -- bingo! She found lots of great choices. Maybe that
will work for wide, too?

I have wide feet too, and I am excited to try Shoes of Prey
(shoesofprey.com), where they custom-make your shoes.
If you don't get too fancy, they run just over $100.
I did get to order a freebie pair, and ordered a size 7.5. They
were too short, and my freebie contact wouldn't agree to send
them back. But they otherwise fit BEAUTIFULLY, so it's really
worth it to me to order a size 8.
I'm mentioning this to let you know that they run short.
I know what you mean about ordering and sending them back. but
I've discovered that I far prefer it because it's so frustrating
to go in a store and find out they have 2 pairs in wide, and
they don't have my size.
I place a HUGE Zappos order, complete w/ 2 sizes for every
style, and then I try them all on and send them back
immediately. Usually I have to send all but 1 or 2 (out of 12 to
18) back, and if I had that rate after spending the time to get
to the store, I'd be so very demoralized.
Zappos makes it really easy to return.
