What's an appropriate outfit?
By: guest46 Date: May 14, 2018, 1:36 pm

My husband and I are going to a wedding next month. It is black
tie optional. My husband will be wearing a nice suit, tie, dress
shoes, etc.
I have a dress that is a bit like this one
HTML https://www.unique-vintage.com/products/voodoo-vixen-red-lace-three-quarter-sleeve-jane-flare-dress.<br
/>It's orange and doesn't have a lacy pattern. Is this acceptabl
e?
I need to buy shoes. I prefer flat or with a very low heel,
closed-toe, but still appropriate for the wedding. I have wide
feet and buying shoes is hard. :( Does anyone have any
suggestions for me?

On the shoes? Zappos (
HTML https://www.zappos.com/
). You can search
by various terms including width, color and/or heel height.

I think a dress like that would be fine.

That dress is fantastic! Wear it.
As it is short and you’re going to wear flats, I’d glam it up
with dressy jewelry, evening bag, and maybe a fancy hairstyle.

For the shoes, I suggest trying DSW.com
They have a good selection of comfort brands, and plenty of
dress shoes with all heel heights.
You can usually get an idea of the formality by what the
invitation looks like and also the time of the reception.
Usually. There can always be exceptions of course! Lol
If they are saying black tie optional, then I would suggest a
cocktail dress. I would wear fancier hair, makeup, jewelry,
evening bag for black tie optional, definitely.

That dress looks good to me. I always hate when it "something" +
"optional" because then I'm even more confused about what to
wear.

For shoes, I'd go with something like this
HTML https://www.zappos.com/p/soft-style-pleats-be-with-you-starfish-kid/product/8919669/color/734710
or a slingback like this

Thank you for those suggestions. I like those slingbacks (I can
wear them to the office as well). I'll have to buy some new
makeup and a nice necklace. I'm not very good at dressing up but
I'll do my best and no one will be looking at me anyway. ;D
Thank you everyone for your help!!

Does the dress have any embellishments at all? I’m just thinking
a metallic is probably a better neutral for an orange dress than
a nude, and if it’s a high neck like the dress you linked a big
jewelled collar necklace or some statement earrings would look
excellent.

The dress doesn't have any embellishments. It's plain but it's a
bright color. I would call it a bold orange color but not neon
or blazing. Just bright and warm. I feel that isn't a very good
description but it's the best I can do! I think gold metallics
would be a better neutral than a nude especially as I am darker
than most nude hues. I have a pair of metallic gold low heeled
sandals that would look good but they are kind of old and I
haven't bought shoes in a few years so I am open to something
new. I liked the slingbacks because they still feel summery. I
wanted close toe shoes because I have ugly toenails and I prefer
those for work but I'm open to open toe shoes.
It's sooo hard to find shoes when you have wide feet. There
aren't as many options. I try to buy them in stores so I can try
them on because I hate buying shoes online only to send them
back. I am jealous of women who have regular width feet, lol.
