I made a couple wall-hanging jewelry boxes. Both DD's already
have one, but "needed" more hanging knobs with different
configurations. They are intended for Christmas gifts, but I'm
not sure they won't get them sooner.

That is why I'm glad that none of my gift recipients live with
me. When their gifts are done, I hide them the same way as
bought gifts. Then they can not do those "pleading eyes."
Good for you getting them done! And, really, a gift is a gift .
. . no matter when they get them!

Today I started making the Christmas ornaments for this year.
They are mittens. I've sewn 14 so far and will take them with me
to the ocean to stuff and hand stitch closed. Hope to have a ton
more done before we go.
(I'm a terrible human being, I snuck in sewing time while DH and
my cousin were watching game shows on TV.) :-[

You're making a ton more mitten ornaments??????
Are these for family and friends you exchange gifts with or
perhaps students or co workers?
Excuse me for being so nosy but I'm fasinated with the idea of
giving gifts to tons of folks.

Not a problem; I don't mind people asking. I have a large
family, lots of people who are dear to me, and some of the most
wonderful medical people at a lot of medical offices. (Three
years ago, I started a fight against breast cancer and so I have
a lot of doctors from that year. Since I still go for
appointments in those offices, I do an ornament for each person
in each of the offices.) And I do ornaments for the families of
my DIL and SIL, because I want to do for the people who share
their wonderful children with us.

You are the very opposite of a terrible human being - you kindly
let your DH and cousin watch their game shows on TV
uninterrupted by such things as: offering cups of tea, asking if
'we should all play a board game' or 'can't we watch something
else', or demands to go out a do 'something interesting',
appeals for help with <x>, etc...
As I say: kind. Don't forget: considerate, empathetic,
wonderful person! :D :D

Oh, thank you! I needed to hear that. Dh pointed out to me that
I used my "Kindergarten teacher" voice to her this morning as I
explained something to her. I've asked him to give me a signal
if he hears me doing that again. Sigh.
Her younger sister came over the mountains today and we all went
to my mother's house to join other family members in wishing my
mother a "Happy Birthday!" Then both of my cousins went to the
ocean. DH and I will go over tomorrow and spend a day with them.
Sunday morning, younger sister goes home and my cousin will stay
with us and come back to our house until Thursday. Thursday she
flies out to go back home.
I've been working on getting this year's ornaments sewn, and
turned right side out. I'm taking them with me to the ocean, so
I can stuff them and whip stitch them closed while we watch TV
at night. I hope to have 75 done by tonight, which is only 40
more.

Well, I've been working on my mitten ornaments while visiting
with my cousin. I even took them with me to the ocean! Last
night I choose out a dozen to go home with my sweet cousin. I
wanted for her sons and their families to have some of the
ornaments. I have finished a total of 60, so far. I still have a
lot cut out, so I'll be doing a lot more sewing!

That's what we're here for!!
Sounds like you had a lovely visit, and are motoring with those
mittens.
I know I've mentioned in before [possible several times], but
thinking of your ornaments reminds me of those made by Auntie G
when I was a child: I still have four red, yellow, or green,
felt stocking ornaments with rickrack trim. I remember she used
to make a whole bunch to be sold for the Beth Johnson* home.
Auntie G died on the day of my dad's funeral, so she's been gone
23 and half years, but I treasure those ornaments.
I'm hoping that the ones you sent off with your cousin will be
providing a treasured memory to her sons & their families in
another few decades, too.
* Auntie G used to volunteer at the day centre [I think],
helping out the "old people"... Someone once pointed out that
in her mid/late 80's she was significantly older than most of
the 'old people', but somehow she remained one of the young
people until very shortly before she died.
Happy tears for happy memories. :'(

Chez Miriam, this is my second try at posting this. Last time it
wouldn't post and it disappeared!
Thank you for sharing your story about your Auntie G and her
ornaments. I would count myself blessed if someone felt that way
about my ornaments. (Okay, go to current projects and read about
my grandson with the ornaments I made last year. I am blessed.)

I got a lot more cut our and about 20 of those are sewn and
turned right side out, ready to be stuffed. We have TV shows we
watch together tonight, so I will stuff them tonight and hand
sew them either tonight or tomorrow morning. Think it is time to
move on to finishing up the bookmarks and lounging pants, maybe
some time next week.
