Yesterday it was 93 here in the Pacific North West and I just
about melted. So, knowing it is supposed to be hot again today,
I got up and started sewing right away. I managed to get 3 pair
of lounging pants serged before my very good friend came over
for our girls day out! I hope to get them measured and pinned
for the waistband and hems tonight and sewn tomorrow morning.
So, three gifts will be done by end of day tomorrow! If I can
keep up the pace, I may make my goal of being done with
Christmas sewing by the end of November.
Then I can spend December baking. That would totally be my DH's
       idea of perfect!

It sounds like a LOT of gifts, if at the rate of 3 every two
days it will take you to the end of November!
I hope you're not melting still [the UK had a ridiculously
wonderful Easter that confused our sodden British brains into
thinking we'd get a summer this year, and we're having yet more
rain; ah, well, the joys of an English summer, eh? ;)]

I've been thinking about Christmas (and Thanksgiving) menus and
for the former have finally settled on the following. I admit I
plan about three days of meals, not just the main one because we
get about a week off work and I like the idea of making formal
menus even if I keep them easy:
       Christmas Eve Breakfast
       Sauteed eggs
       Bacon
       Papaya
       Christmas Eve Dinner
       BLT salad with buttermilk dressing
       Dover sole meunière
       Garlic- and caper-roasted mushrooms
       Christmas Breakfast
       Cilbir
       Bacon
       Fried potatoes & onions
       Papaya
       Christmas Dinner
       Champagne
       Sour cherry soup
       Tangerine and olive salad
       Chicken bastilla
       Carmelized shallots
       Steamed artichoke
Apple or cherry pie with vanilla ice cream
       Day After Christmas Breakfast
Velvet scrambled eggs with fresh herbs (and green salad)
       Apples fried with bacon
       Bloody Mary (virgin)
       Day After Christmas Dinner
       Caesar salad
       Steamed clams

Well, this week has been much cooler, which has been nice! I'll
finish up the lounging pants, I hope, by the end of June/ middle
of July. And then it is on to the other gifts I want to make.
Large family; I'm one of 7 children. So I only do lounging pants
for my children and their spouses and children, but I do the
other gifts for everyone: family and friends.

Wow! Those are great menus. I'm getting hungry just reading.
I had to look up cilbir and bastilla. They sound delicious. Are
       they family recipes?

       Hi Twik,
Thank you for the nice compliment. I like to play with and tweak
my menus months ahead of time so I can buy specialized
ingredients such as sour cherries I can't find locally. I'll
admit it preps me mentally too as they are very drool-worthy!
Unfortunately, they are not family recipes. (I grew up in a
white bread household, figuratively and literally.) I first ran
across cilbir about ten years ago in a Turkish cookbook, and the
bastilla at least twenty-five years ago when the LA Times
published it. I was utterly smitten by both and they have been
part of my life since I discovered them.

I recently came up with the idea of giving my two sisters and
one brother a kind of pre-holiday and holiday gift all in one
box. This evening I began by ordering three 18-inch trees (
  HTML https://www.christmascentral.com/18-mini-pine-artificial-christmas-tree-in-burlap-base-unlit-32614946/<br
/>) and some short battery-operated fairy lights in a warm white
       .
On the Monday after Thanksgiving weekend, I will pack three
mailing boxes, each one with a tree, two sets of lights, a
special stocking with an orange, some nuts, and small,
inexpensive but useful gifts in it and their regular gift
specially wrapped with a note that says "Not to be opened until
Christmas Day" inside. All three are struggling financially so I
decided to give them not just one gift but a holiday box. Am
       excited thinking about it.

This sounds delightful. I think they will love their gifts! For
many years, I gave my husband and children a "Christmas" gift on
Thanksgiving day. The idea was that it was Christmas themed, but
not very useful on Christmas day. So Advent calendars, or a CD
of Christmas music. Once I gave my husband a tool that would
help him make our son a gift. (He could do it without the tool,
but the tool made it easier.)

Today I made a trip to JoAnn's and bought some Christmas fabric.
I noticed that a lot of the bolts were the same fabric as what
they had last year. Disappointing. I want new and pretty
fabrics. The prices have gone up, so I was happy that I had some
60% off coupons to use. Next week I hope to start making the
ornaments for this year. I sew ornaments each year and this
       year's will be mittens.

Today I got two more pairs of lounging pants made; one for DD
and one for her DH. I'm happy that I got myself together enough
to get a bigger project done!

I made a couple wall-hanging jewelry boxes. Both DD's already
have one, but "needed" more hanging knobs with different
configurations. They are intended for Christmas gifts, but I'm
not sure they won't get them sooner.
