Re: Getting ready for Christmas 2019

Yesterday I got a pattern traced off, (so I can keep the master
pattern complete), cut out 10 lounging pants and used the new
pattern to cut out an apron pattern that I'm going to wear as a
summer top (I hope.)
I'm going to try to sew: ornaments, bookmarks, lounging pants,
and a few aprons and bags while I work on healing. By the time
the Christmas season is here, I hope to be done with the sewing
projects. I do still need to work on perfecting a tortilla
warmer pattern. That will be mostly using my brain to figure out
how to do it!
Chez Miriam, you nailed it!

Today I located a "missing" fabric, cut out another 8 lounging
pants and sorted all of the lounging pants by what thread I
would need on the serger.
My DD laughed and said only I would prepare for surgery by
getting my sewing projects together!

Not quite the same, but my mum prepared for surgery by getting
her garden tidy!
I think it's that worry about getting behind? Sounds like you
are doing brilliantly with your prep - I'm guessing you will
have Christmas sorted out 6 months early! ;D

I'm waiting to sew until my brain is working more clearly! Until
then, reading my stacks down. I gave my mother some books today
and we visited. Seeing my mother makes for a good day!

My 2019 Christmas shopping officially kicked off today with an
unexpected discovery at my favorite thrift store. I found a
lovely hand-carved wooden elephant with its sides having
multiple "holes" in them where you could see a baby elephant
inside the mother. All tusks are intact. My best friend, who
collects elephants, will love it in her Christmas stocking.

Amara, I have two friends who collect elephants and your find
sounds adorable! I love it when I find a treasure and know the
perfect home for it!

It was an amazing discovery. I suspect it originally was sold to
tourists in Thailand or a place like that. But it is definitely
hand-carved. And it was only four dollars! It's fun finding
things like that, isn't it?

Yes, it is! I have found some great elephants at the Fair Trade
stores with beautiful things from around the world and never
seen anything like that at any price!

I remember my brother doing a carving-within-a-carving, and it
took him ages, so that sounds like a real bargain.

Yesterday it was 93 here in the Pacific North West and I just
about melted. So, knowing it is supposed to be hot again today,
I got up and started sewing right away. I managed to get 3 pair
of lounging pants serged before my very good friend came over
for our girls day out! I hope to get them measured and pinned
for the waistband and hems tonight and sewn tomorrow morning.
So, three gifts will be done by end of day tomorrow! If I can
keep up the pace, I may make my goal of being done with
Christmas sewing by the end of November.
Then I can spend December baking. That would totally be my DH's
idea of perfect!
