I finally bought the yarn to make YGD her Christmas gift. She
asked if I would make her "a blanket with a hood". So, she will
get a hooded poncho from me.
She asked her Aunt (ODD) to make her one, too. So she will be
getting one knit one (mine) and one crocheted one.

She knows how to cover her bases! I love things crocheted and
knitted and think that they each have their own feel. I'll bet
she will be very happy that both of you came through for her!

My very good friend has suggested laundry bags for everyone in
her family. So 5 laundry bags it is! (One for each person.) They
will make up easily, so that is good.

I luv this thread! Always ready to talk about the holidays. :P
I have been browsing Etsy and other places for red mercury
ornaments. (It's wonderful how many places, not Etsy, still have
old Christmas items but now on sale so things I wouldn't buy in
October/November/December are affordable.) I have a lipstick red
tree with red lights and red ornaments. I may at some point in
the future go more subtle and get a white tree, though not
flocked, and when I do then I will switch to white, clear and
silver mercury ornaments. At any rate it's fun to talk about it
and browse the online stores.
I already have two menus set for Christmas dinner and haven't
been able to decide (yet) between them. But I also have the day
before as well. Here they are (and if you have any thoughts
about my choice for Christmas dinner feel free to express it:
Christmas Eve Breakfast 2018
Toast
Herb omelet
Bacon
Breakfast banana split
Christmas Eve Dinner 2018
Sparkling water
BLT salad with buttermilk dressing (
HTML https://steamykitchen.com/7573-blt-salad-with-buttermilk-dressing.html<br
/>)
Garlic- and caper-roasted mushrooms
Dover sole meunière
See’s candy
Christmas Breakfast 2018
Fried potatoes & onions
Melon
Bacon
Cilbir
Bloody Mary (virgin)
Christmas Dinner 2018
Champagne
Shrimp cocktail
Caesar salad
T-bone steak (grilled)
Steamed artichoke
Garlic bread
Apple or cherry pie with vanilla ice cream
or
Champagne
Sour cherry soup
Tangerine and olive salad
Chicken Bastilla
Carmelized shallots
Steamed artichoke
Apple or cherry pie with vanilla ice cream
[/quote]
I need to know what a breakfast banana split is, please. ;D
Your menu sounds awesome.
We go elsewhere for holiday meals but I make my great grandma's
ginger snaps & my awesome pumpkin bread to give as gifts to
neighbors & friends and to take along to celebrations.

I love this topic!!!!!
I am planning on making my home-made Christmas Crackers again.
I save up the appropriate amount of paper towel roles and cut
them in half so each role makes two tubes. Each tube will have:
-Christmas chocolates
-a mini liquor bottle (for the adults)
-pack of gum or scented hand sanitizer (for the kids)
-a scratch-off ticket
-a quote about Christmas on a little piece of paper
I started this tradition a couple years ago and it was such a
huge hit with my family so now I have to make them every year :)

Today I did some more "prep" work. . . okay, I went fabric
shopping! But I did get some great fabric for making mug rugs
for my DS and DIL. They are animal lovers and I got some great
fabric that is about adopting animals. They will love it! It is
washed and dried and folded, waiting for me to finish the quilt
I'm making for DGD. As soon as I've finished that, I'm going
full guns ahead on Christmas sewing.

I am sorry to be so late in responding. I didn't see this until
now. A breakfast banana split is the same, or as close as you
can get, to a regular banana split but healthy. Split the banana
lengthwise, then take plain yogurt that you have scooped out
earlier and frozen for a bit of time (on a nonstick sheet),
place those scoops in between the banana sides, then top with
three different fruit toppings that you made in the blender.
These can be, for example, fresh strawberries, blueberries and
mango or whatever you prefer. Or you can use just one. Top with
chopped almonds and if you have, one or some of the Morello
cherries from Trader Joe's. The liquid from the cherries can be
used instead of the toppings or one of the toppings but be
careful; this stuff is sweet.
Think yogurt and fruit and nuts. You can also do this as a
sundae with layers building up in those old-fashioned sundae
glasses. Some people use sugary/sweet things in them but I
cannot handle sugar in the morning so I am careful to limit it
to tiny amounts. Here are some online recipes. I love having
sundae and banana split glasses to make it particularly fun.
Enjoy!

Today I finished the pillows for my very good friend; they are a
Christmas print, but I'll give them to her soon. That way she'll
have them to enjoy all season.
Tomorrow I will start this year's gift. which will be quilted
mug rugs. I hope to personalize them for each person. As I am
changing colors on my sewing machine, I will also make the
ornaments for that color of thread. Drops voice to whisper: (I'm
ahead of my original schedule.) Back to regular voice: Nothing
like tempting the fates like same that kind of stuff at regular
levels!

Things keep getting added to my schedule (more gifts, including
one that DH asked me to make, and--gasp-- work!) Tomorrow I'm
off due to working 2 days in a row, my maximum, and on Thursday
I'm going to go to a sewing, crafting and quilting show at our
nearby town's fairgrounds. So Tomorrow I sew! (No snickering!)
