In my Catholic high school Sophomore year, we read "The Chosen"
and enjoyed a Hanukkah celebration in English class one day , it
was awesome

Of course, the latkes were a big hit. When I was a teen my Mom
told me that many of the PTA Moms asked Mrs. Kranzler for the
recipe. After all, those potato pancakes were the perfect thing
to serve with their New Year’s Day pork roast.
The few Jewish kids in the class introduced us to the exotic
culinary delight of combining apple sauce with sour cream on the
latkes. We won’t even talk about how fast the jelly doughnuts
disappeared.
Ain’t diversity grand?

snipped for length. *grin* bet the Charoset brought in at
passover disappeared even faster.

For Passover Mrs. Kranzler made a bold move. She brought in the
ingredients and we kids actually made our own Charoset.
We also had great fun with Purim. We made paper crowns in art
class, brought towels to pin to our shoulders and marched around
the classroom with noisemakers. Of course we had Hematashen.
Just as the boys loved the Maccabees, the girls were thrilled to
learn about Queen Esther.

So let me ask your opinions ...
My boyfriend’s best friend is on his annual rant about “why do
my relatives send me ‘Seasons Greetings’ cards instead of
Hanukkah cards when they know I’m Jewish?”
How do I politely cut off this rant without telling him he’s an
ungrateful wretchwho should be glad someone took the time to
send him a card at all?

Ask him what kind of card he sends to them?

Years ago there was a local artist who made and sold the perfect
‘Season’s Greetings’ card. It showed a Brooklyn Brownstone. In
various windows were a menorah and a Christmas tree as well as
Kwanzaa decorations. With that image on the front, ‘Season’s
Greetings’ was just right.

I don't know him, but I've seen a number of 'Season's Greetings'
cards that had Santa Claus/reindeer/Christmas trees/etc on them,
and they didn't really come off as neutral to me. I mean, they
didn't have baby Jesus or a cross, but they were still at least
covertly Christian to my eyes. I can see finding that annoying.

I choose the snowy scene Season's Greetings cards, and the one
time someone let me know they found it offensive that I sent
them a card, I immediately took them off my card list. I don't
send her a 'whatever festival her religion* celebrates' card,
because I only send cards at this time of year, and she hasn't
ever sent me a card for any occasion other than birthday...
AND Christmas, of course?!? :o ::)
As long as he doesn't accept anything to do with Christmas
[presents spring to mind], your boyfriend should let them know
their good wishes are unwanted, or lead by example and send
Hannukah cards himself.
I send cards to people I care about, because this season is the
time of least light in the world, and most people celebrate in
some way the start of nights becoming just that little bit less
dark, and I feel that it's a time when humanity is most likely
to come together. If I know a person is Christian, I will send
a Christmas card, otherwise it's likely to be a picture of a
stag in the snow, with a "thinking of you" message inside.

I have Muslim friends. I send them a card this time of year but
I specifically choose one with a message like 'Wishing you peace
at this time of year' - which is the same one I send to people
who have experienced a recent loss. And usually, I get a card
back that says 'Merry Christmas'.
