       Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all the BMandB folks in the U.S. We have
invited a young family to help us enjoy our feast. Our turkey
is roasting, the pies and cranberry sauce were made yesterday.
Today we will mash the potatoes, make the gravy and bread and
veggies. The two men in our household work in retail and both
have to be at work this evening so we will have our feast about
1 pm. Tomorrow we will venture out to Black Friday for awhile.
       Our weather here is very nice today (Tulsa), almost pleasant;
but tomorrow is supposed to be cloudy and a little rain. We
have the Macy's parade on the TV (my DD tries never to miss
watching it). What's everyone else doing today!

We’ll be having a quiet Thanksgiving. Since it’s just the two
of us we’ll be eating chicken with roast rosemary potatoes and
string beans panned with garlic and oil. For dessert there will
be chocolate ice cream with fresh raspberries. For some reason,
the berries are dirt cheap this year. Of course, there will
       also be wine.
We started watching the Macy’s parade but later switched to the
Chicago parade. That was more fun because it felt less like
Broadway and more like a home town affair.
Although the weather here is brutally cold, we’ll be going out
for a little fresh air after lunch. We’ll also be talking to
family members in the upper Midwest.
In the evening the local PBS station is showing a Frank Sinatra
       concert.
All in all, we’re thankful for the peace and quiet.

Our new tradition (3 years old now) is corned beef for
Thanksgiving. I can smell it cooking in the oven. My broccoli
with cheese sauce is done and we are waiting on my son to do the
mashed potatoes and stuffing. There's also cranberry sauce,
brown and serve rolls with Muenster cheese, mixed nuts, and
pumpkin pie. A very cozy, low-key day.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the U.S. members! It's my favorite
holiday of the year, and I've made Thanksgiving for 40 years
now, starting from when I moved away from my FOO (they were in
NYC). We usually have at least 25 people, often more, but this
year we'll only be 17 people. I made one turkey & gravy
yesterday (will mostly be used to send home with our guests) and
I have another in the oven right now. Already made the
stuffing, cranberry relish, and vegetarian gravy, plus a
broccoli feta cheese pie as a main dish for the vegetarians.
I'm making cheese straws (in a couple of hours) and
cheese-stuffed mini peppers for appetizers. We do a pot luck,
and my guests are bringing sweet potatoes, green beans, mashed
potatoes, ambrosia, quinoa salad, cheese platter, NY cheesecake,
apple cake, pumpkin pie and chocolate cake. People start
arriving around 4pm and we eat at 6pm. I got more food cooked
ahead of time than usual, and because we have about 8 less
people than usual I'm making less side dishes. Seems like a
       vacation!

This was the first year since my mother crossed over in 1980
that I have not entertained my small family (my sister, her
daughter, son-in-law, and their two children) in my home.
I am very sad about it, but after several incidents in which I
felt they behaved rudely, they decided to have their own
celebration. I declined, and spent the afternoon with two young
gentlemen I hired. I’ve decided to spend Christmas in Puerto
       Vallarta.

I know I will probably regret asking but, what were the 2 young
       gentlemen hired to do?

We celebrated with my brother's family - traditional US
Thanksgiving dinner. My niece's roommate from college joined us.
She is from Japan and obviously wasn't able to go home for the
week - plus, the college charges extra for students to stay in
the dorms over breaks. We enjoyed getting to know her a bit. I
asked if she'd found any good Japanese restaurants locally, she
shook her head and said, "no." We all cracked up at that.
After dinner, we played a dice game called Left Right Center.
Very easy, fun and fast. Easy to play and visit at the same
       time.

Thanksgiving actually turned out better than I had hoped. Two
of my three daughters were able to come along with their spouses
and children. There was lots of food, lots of conversation,
lots of fun. Dd#2 brought supplies to make gingerbread houses
after dinner and I think the grownups enjoyed it as much as the
grandchildren. I was so happy and so grateful to have them all
with dh and me for the day.

I just wanted a nice quiet holiday, with a turkey sandwich. So
I made a turkey breast, and stuffing (because I love stuffing!).
My petsitter brought me an entire giant meal, to thank me for
my help with her stuff. Then my neighbor brought me food. Then
I brought my neighbor food, and came home with even more food.
It was like a weird kind of progressive dinner, but delicious.
