My point is that despite not looking like a stupid, naive idiot
the cane makes me look weaker and like an easy victim.

And adds to a general feeling of vulnerability.
But in this situation, it may also have added to a greater
feeling of solicitousness toward you on the part of the guy. He
may have been thinking, "She's not as steady on her feet as an
able-bodied person, like me, and she's shorter than me, so she
doesn't have as much leverage with a door. I'll hold the door
open for her!"
And not really concentrated on the fact that this means he
was inside the room with you.

Yes. With that added information, I bet he was trying to help
someone with a cane and not because he's a sicko. He'd probably
do the same for a man with a cane.

but it's still a reaction I can understand.

I'm not sure if this is addressed to my post above? I was
agreeing with you that the guy was trying to help.

no, just reiterating to Venus that even if the guy was genuinely
trying to help, I can understand why she might still feel
uneasy. Trying to validate her reaction.

The good thing is, whether you feel creeped out or not, it's
perfectly polite to wave him out first, as mentioned above. It's
certainly not rude or insulting to avoid going into a one-person
bathroom with someone else. It's just practical logistics!
I know how unsettling it can be if you feel you were in an
unsafe situation. But if it happens again, hopefully it won't
stick with you or mess up the rest of your day.
