Years and years ago I went to Hawaii over Christmas and went to
their Sears (or some major dept store) to buy a light weight
Hawaiian print dress to wear while I was there. I had a hard
time finding one -- the store was full of corduroy and wool and
other wintery type clothing.

I am assuming that the stores in Hawaii didn't usually sell much
in the way of wool & corduroy?

Well, it gets cold at the tops of the volcanos, particularly
when the sun goes down.

We were at Mauna Kea at Thanksgiving. There was considerable
snow and people were sledding.

I don't like it either. I was going to Cost Plus for some
Halloween-related items for my DIL and all they had was
Christmas stuff out. This was two weeks ago. OK, so next time
I'll shop for Halloween in August....:-(

Which, ironically, will perpetuate the damn cycle because store
management will be saying to themselves, "Look, customers want
to buy this stuff in August . . ."
I am still trying to browse autumn and Thanksgiving decor--and
it's becoming harder to find. ::)

LOL! In fabric stores, the Christmas fabric comes out in July.
That's mostly because if you wanted to sew Christmas stuff, you
should start in July so it'll be done by then.
I wonder if that's why I'm not upset about early Christmas stuff
coming out? I've worked in quite a few fabric stores, so I'm
kind of used to it.

I've always been a craft person so making holiday gifts and
decorations and wreaths months ahead of time is normal for me.
But - I draw the line about purchasing a Christmas tree and
boxes of balls and tinsel and themed wrapping paper way before
the holiday. I'm a stained glass artist and years ago I spent
parts of every year making articles to take to craft shows
before the holiday season and I really enjoyed doing that as
well as thinking of glass gifts to make for special people.
I'm actually offended that the stores seem to be pushing
Halloween and Thanksgiving out of the way. The actual
decorating and celebrating ought to wait until just before the
actual holiday IMO. We usually put up our tree and other decor
about a week before Christmas and take it down right after New
Year's day.
Two of my family who live in my house work behind the scenes in
retail and they say that it sometimes is hard to enjoy Christmas
because of handling all the Christmas stuff months before
December. We all realize that is just part of being in retail
though.

I agree that this is annoying. I hate the pressure, but this is
in character with the practice of selling pool toys in January.
Aunt Pittypat was in retail for a long time and grew to hate
Christmas because of the endless repeats of the same 90-minute
loop of stupid music and management that didn't give a flying
Xxx about inconvenient scheduling they forced on staff.
[/quote]
Oh yes, the "Christmas music" which I am so happy to be missing
this year. Where I worked it was a much longer loop, but that
was because we had to include every different version of each
Christmas song, including 3 versions of Santa Baby, 8 versions
on Santa Clause is coming to town, and no less than 6 versions
of "Baby it's cold outside", which is not a Christmas song or
even a winter song. It's from an old movie and is used twice,
where Fernando Lamas is trying to seduce Esther Williams, and
again when Betty Garrett is trying to seduce Red Skelton. (When
I say old movie, I mean older than me, Movie came out in
1949). Then there are 3 versions of "Last Christmas" which song
makes me stabby.

If the song, I'll Be Home for Christmas" comes on, I will leave
if I can. I hate that song. I spent several Christmases away
from home and that song throws me into a major flashback/
depression. I'm not sorry that I joined the Army, but it wasn't
easy for me to be away from my sisters and brothers and our
parents at Christmas.
