Hand sanitizer is my absolute favorite.
My company gives out these color changing cups - just simple
plastic cups like the ones that used to be given out all the
time in the 90s, except they change color when you add cold
liquids to them. We often keep a container of ice water on hand
and offer people a cold, free drink in one of our cups. Kids
adore them (and love picking the color they want), but the
adults really like them, too.

Hand sanitizer & sanitizer spray, lip balm, tissue pack holders,
and pens are my favorite. I keep them in my purse all the time.
I read them each time I use them.

I don’t know where we got them but a treasured bit of swag in
our house are a few binder clips from Enron.

I once came away from a medical education event with a fistful
of quite good-quality ballpoints proudly emblazoned 'VIAGRA'.
Lots of people begged me for one, but I only gave them to
specially-favoured friends!

Cool thumb drives. I had one shaped like a wine cork, and
another shaped like an RV. I loved those.

Those Viagra pens were the best! A coworkers wife was a drug
representative, and she gave him a box of them for his milestone
birthday. He shared.

Speaking of swag prestige.
Back in the 1970s men in the office would often buy things to
take home. It was well-known that women in the office had a
stash of plastic bags. Men looking to select a bag would often
take more time doing that than they did buying the item they
wanted to bring home.
There was a male hierarchy of bags.
1) Bags from Goldberg Marine, 42nd Street Photo or J&R.
Anything from a computer show was also highly prized.
2) Bags with the logos of high end men’s stores or banks. Bags
from Brooks Bros were fine.Rogers Peet, less so.
3) Bags with book shop logos. They might not make you look
macho but they made you look intellectual. Rizzoli bags were
almost as good as tier two bags. B&N bags were taboo.
4) Bags from grocery chains. Food Emporium bags just make the
cut but that was dodgy.
5) Any other bags were considered beneath consideration. No
matter what was in it, no man worth his salt would carry a bag
from Rainbow Shops or Woolworths.

We got one of those. There was screwoff top that disclosed a
place for a pill! 😀

I'm a fair junkie and attend a LOT of them, as often as I can
(craft fairs, street fairs, county fairs, state fairs, tech
fairs....), and I LOVE swag!
The items that I use the most are the pens. I have a bunch in
my purse, a whole lot more at home, and every job I've ever had,
I bring in pens to use. I remember the company from them. All
pens, cheap or not, are useful somewhere.
Note pads are also very popular with me, sticky notes or not. I
use them a lot.
For the summer fairs, I try to get the 'funeral fans' early,
because I usually forget one, and I'm HOT. one of the best fans
I ever got was from the SPCA - it's round with a wire in the
perimeter, so it'll fold up and fit in my purse. When I need it,
it pops back out to a nice round shape. I have that one with
me at all times.
Those rubber disks for opening jars. Once again, I have a stack
of them in my kitchen drawer, and I've been known to give them
away to friends.
Tote bags are always welcome. I use and share my tote bags.
I must be the only person in America who doesn't like hand
sanitizer. I rarely use it. Nasty stuff.
Lip balm, I'd use. I have one in my office drawer right now,
from my ENT doctor's office.
Mints get eaten, and then I have to dispose of the container.
Wasteful.
Bandaids are cool, but again, then I have a container to dispose
of.
Small pill containers are nice. I use those a lot.
Squishy balls and toys are nice, but eventually I give them
away. (looking at the squishy pink pig on my desk).
I have a bunch of USB drives that I love and keep on my desk at
home. Even the tiny one (32mg) is useful for carrying documents
around. I used to carry my resume on it when I was job-hunting.
When a recruiter asks, 'Can you email me a soft copy of your
resume?' how geeky is it to say, 'I have it right here on a
flash drive!' (yes, I'm a computer geek)
Hand lotion is iffy. I'm picky about my lotion, but it'd
definitely make me remember the company.
Sewing kits are nice, but as a seamstress, I have my own sewing
kit.
All in all, the pens are the cheapest swag, and the most overall
useful.
When I used to go to FOSE, you could always tell who had the
best swag by the lines of people waiting to pick something up.

One of the vendors at a lot of shows I attend gives those away.
They're a huge hit. I even snagged a couple for myself and DH,
and I rarely pick up swag!
