       The rabbi didn't say anything, this came from someone else. I
       would not blame him for his feelings (Orthodox rabbis frequently
       have very strong feelings about intermarriage) and he handled it
       as well as he could. We don't know what happened with the
       response card, it might have gotten lost in transit or
       something. I think the best thing the family can do is nothing.
       Don't comment on it, don't start a debate.

       Or he may have delayed sending back the RSVP because he felt bad
       about saying no and was talking to his Orthodox Rabbi about any
       possible ways he could attend.

       It means he has the rabbinical education but is not working as a
       rabbi. Like saying someone has an MD but isn't a practicing
       physician.
