       Blocking on facebook messenger ?
By: oogyda Date: September 22, 2018, 11:31 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I have a niece who sends chain messages even though I have
       repeatedly asked her not to.
It's gotten to the point that I want to block her on messenger
only. If I do this, will she know? Will the app inform her
that her next message was undeliverable? I'd actually prefer if
it did. If not, I will let her know I'm blocking her because of
       this issue.

I don’t know, but would be interested to find out too. I am
wondering how hard it would be to just delete it.

I'd rather block her since that would prevent her from sending
       future messages.
It seems to me that if I delete her as a contact, she'd be able
to re-add me as a contact the next time she's sending things
       like this.

I just testing out the "block" feature using my and my husband's
       accounts.
As DH I chose "block messages" from me. Then I logged in as
myself and tried to send a message to DH. It lets you type if
you're in the small popup window, but when you hit send it says
"This person isn't available right now." If you open up to the
full page messenger where that person's last message is, there's
literally no option to send a message--you can't type on the
page with previous messages you've sent to them.
So if you want your niece to know WHY you're "not available",
you'll have to tell her yourself. Facebook (as usual--their
settings seem to try to minimize drama) doesn't actually tell
       people they've been blocked.

I can't add to Bada's wonderful information. I just wanted to
share that I have a friend who was doing something similar, but
it was for his MLM company. I got upset, saw the block button,
pushed it on a whim... life has been better. Although, I feel
like the timeout should end now, but I can't figure out how to
       unblock him!

Can you report messages the same way that you can report posts
       for spam?

Unblock is in the same place as Block is (I unblocked myself on
DH's account after testing, lol). Open Messenger and open a
message to the blocked person (I don't think it matters if it's
new or old) and click the gear icon to open "settings" (on the
phone version it's an i inside a circle rather than a gear).
Unblock is an option. So is "ignore messages" for people who
don't want the person to know you're not receiving and reading
       their junk.
There's a "something's wrong" option, too, which looks like it
functions as a spam reporting tool. You can say "harassment" or
"unauthorized sales"...not sure if those would fit the bill for
       MLM sales. Shrug.

Amazing! I could not find this for months now!!! Thanks, Friend
       is out of time out.
Despite a few character flaws, he actually is a good person and
a friend that I want in my life (although in limited
quantities.) I am not looking to get him in any trouble with
Facebook, but I just do not want my phone buzzing all the time
because he has sent me another advertisement for his company or
other things that have no thought into whether I would care to
       receive them or not.
Either way, thank you for sharing your genius!

I take back everything that I said! ::) It has not been even
thirty minutes since I unblocked him and he has already sent a
message. It is not for the MLM, but a meme that has nothing to
do with me. More like the sort of thing that one would post on
their wall, because they thought it was funny and I may see it
and like it if I thought it was funny, but not the sort of thing
that would make you think of me. At least I know where to find
       the block button! ;)
