We like to do a variation of Mongolian hot pot for Christmas
Eve. We prepare it in an electric skillet. Sliced meat,
vegetables and noodles cooked in a garlic ginger sauce with a
soy and sesame paste sauce makes a festive meal.

I've been doing fondues since the 70's and have never stopped.
On average we do them 4 or 5 times a year. It used to be our
New Year's Eve tradition when I was still married. And I do
them when I'm camping!
We've tried many types over the years but the favourite of our
family and friends is the beef broth version. Beef cut into
strips cooks quite well in the hot broth and it is lighter than
the oil version. You can also spear broccoli, cauliflower,
mushrooms and other vegetables on your fork to cook in the
broth.
I serve it with a horseradish dip, various cheeses, bread and a
vegetable tray with a dip.

They still sell Tab in those bright pink cans; that's very 70s.
(it's a Coca Cola product and tastes sort of like Diet Dr
Pepper). Tomato or V8 juice as a savory beverage for those who
aren't drinking might be good. Or get a pint of vodka; I
remember adults drinking lots of Bloody Marys back t hen and it
seems like it would go well with cheese fondue.
I like the idea of soft pretzels or pretzel bread for dipping.
You could probably omit the meatballs and quiche, and keep the
pigs-in-blanket and deviled eggs for protein.
That chip dip made by mixing a package of French Onion Soup dip
with a pint of sour cream is tasty and retro. With the "ruffle"
type chips.

Thinking about soda in the 70's, now I've got a song stuck in my
brain.
I'd like to teach the world to sing....in perfect harmony....

And Fresca! I think my brother-in-law still drinks it.

When I think of 70's party food, I always think of Sausages or
Meatballs in the Chili - Jelly sauce. Maybe instead of the pigs
in the blanket?

The other dish always seemed to be at the adult parties my
parents and their friends hosted was a block of cream cheese
topped with PickaPepper sauce and served with Wheat Thins.
I'd also have out Jiffy Pop Popcorn still in their cooking
containers and bowls of Pringles and Buggles. And I agree about
the Chex Mix.
For party games, charades was still big and the "pass the
orange" game was also pretty popular.

The party was this weekend.
Everyone seemed to enjoy it. Had too much food of course.
A couple of odd things, two people were an hour early (one of
them almost always late so that was extra strange taht he showed
up an hour early)
Somehow I put my wrong address on the facebook invite so
everyone who hadn't been there before ended up down the street.
I was super stressed trying to finish things so I could not even
figure out my right address. Finally got that solved and no one
ended up crashing some other random party.

Guests enjoyment is always a success! Good for you.
What did you end up serving? What games did you play?
Details! Please. ;D

I didn't end up playing any games (didn't need them). I served:
Deviled eggs with bacon
Pigs in blankets
Assorted chips/dips
Watergate Salad
Another similar salad (someone else brought it. not sure what it
was)
Green Olives
All the foundues I kind of made up as I went along. We just got
what we could find at the store:
Gouda and Smoked Gouda
Some cheese I cant remember and...chedder I think
Carmael Sea Salt Fondue (This one didn't melt well and I don't
think many people ate it. Ironically it was the one I actually
followed a reciepe for)
Smores but no one made any. So now I have smores for life
Pineapple Upside Down cake punch (alcoholic)
Hawaiian Meatballs
People brought a lot of alcohol and I overbought so I could
basically open my own bar now
