Please help me plan a get together for 18-21 year olds.

The other day I commented to DS that I don't know any of his
friends since we moved to Texas. In Florida our house was
always a revolving door. DS has a very active social life and
works full time. He hangs out with people he works with. Male
and female.
A big thing they do is hang out and the burger joint after work
and eat and talk. So, DS suggested a after work get together at
our house after work. It will be on a Friday night at about 10
pm. I haven't really seen DS to talk about details.
Would you make a meal or a bunch of finger food?
10-15 people.

Order pizza (*maybe* bake them at home, but honestly at that age
I'd have preferred takeout).

I would grill hot dogs & burgers or make chili with appropriate
sides.

I'd talk to your son and see if they usually eat a meal or just
snack.
Or to be safe, I'd order one of the large rectangular pizzas cut
into squares. Do some dips and chips and maybe throw a fruit
tray out. Have an assortment of drinks.
I think the most awkward thing is that they probably aren't
thinking this is going to be an event to meet his mom. They'll
expect you to disappear.
If your goal is to meet some of his friends, I'd probably
suggest he invite a couple of them over for an afternoon bbq or
a dinner.

thanks, I thought of Pizza, burgers and dogs. However I keep
going back to baked ziti. We live in a very Spanish area and
last Christmas they had a holiday party and every dish there was
Hispanic foods, lots of bean and rice dishes. I made a baked
ziti and it was the only thing gone. His managers have asked me
to make it again as the kids got to it first. If I ever see DS
I will ask him.
They plan on playing video games after eating. So I will have
some snacks as well.

Haha, he has already suggested "I can go to my room after
eating."

I was confused about that, too. How old is the son, since he's
working full time ?

He is 20. This is just a event to eat and talk like they do
after work most nights. A quick meal and video games. It's
really not like I'm going to be hanging out with them with a pen
and paper.
Also, laugh if you want, but I would like to put a face and name
to these people.

I'm definitely not laughing at you. It's just that I've only
seen parents on Father Knows Best, Ozzie & Harriet & Leave It To
Beaver suggesting "Hey, Steve, why don't you invite all your
college friends over so I can meet them ? I'll provide the
snacks & hang out with all of you." It's been a running joke in
my family for ages (usually involving "Gee, I feel ripped off.
You never made tiny sandwiches for my friends & sang duets with
Ricky Nelson for them") ;D
