How timely!
I have started. I am doing a project for a foundation that
helps fostered teenage girls that have aged out of the system.
I am collecting used/new purses and will be stuffing them with
toiletries, socks, little mirrors, maybe some makeup, lip balm.
Any other ideas?

This may be way off but I like the idea of giving them something
that may point them in unexpected (to them) career directions as
well as the "fun" stuff. I am thinking of inexpensive paperback
copies of Mary Roach's books (how I wish she had been around
when I was in high school), a calculator, a fun book on math,
etc.

My knitting guild makes fashion scarves for local women's
shelters, since many of the women have very few accessories.
Maybe some inexpensive scarves to dress up looks for work/job
hunting? And a nice notebook or journal.
I think asking somebody who has been there would be the best way
to go. She'd have the best idea of what would be useful and
wanted.

I make totes for Christmas presents, and work on those all year
long. I also buy books at the local library book sale for the
youngsters I give gifts to, and they all love them. What was
really nice this past Christmas was that I had sent some books
to my grand-nephew, a little boy of 3. My nephew posted a
picture on Facebook of him reading one of the books I'd sent to
his little boy.

Oh, I can not think of a better thank you note! Warms the soul!
