Toys R Us is going out of business and everything is now 30%
off. So we loaded up for Christmas and birthdays for LO and his
cousins. ....Now to resist the urge to give him all his gifts
early...

How timely!
I have started. I am doing a project for a foundation that
helps fostered teenage girls that have aged out of the system.
I am collecting used/new purses and will be stuffing them with
toiletries, socks, little mirrors, maybe some makeup, lip balm.
Any other ideas?

When I see something on sale I know someone in my gift list
would love, I buy it. Unfortunately, by the time gift giving
season is around (birthday or Christmas) I don't always remember
already purchased a gift or can't remember where I stored it!
But I like the idea.

This may be way off but I like the idea of giving them something
that may point them in unexpected (to them) career directions as
well as the "fun" stuff. I am thinking of inexpensive paperback
copies of Mary Roach's books (how I wish she had been around
when I was in high school), a calculator, a fun book on math,
etc.

Ha! That's me too. I am just not a very organized person.

I love that idea! Thank you. I figure if I spend 20-25 a week
between now and Thanksgiving I could have lots of stuff!

I started shopping for Christmas early over 20 years ago! I was
sitting in a shopping mall, list in hand, tired and hangry and
resentful. >:( I then had an epiphany; I didn't WANT to feel
like this when I was gifting people who I loved! So I resolved
then and there that I would never buy a Christmas present after
Thanksgiving. Every New Year, I make up a list of everyone I
would like to buy for, and as the year progresses, when I find a
gift, I write it down and store it in a drawer. This was after
one year when I bought 4 gifts for 1 person, and none for
another one. :-[ It's worked like a champ for me, and now I
can even venture into crowded venues during the Holiday Season,
to enjoy the singing and festivities without feeling pressured!

I really need to start doing this. I have a feeling it would
work much better than my current system of "Oh hey, it's
Christmas Eve. I should probably buy some presents..."

Any way I could get the name of the foundation from you? It
sounds like a great idea and something I would really like to be
involved with, if possible.
