Christmas Shopping During Spring and Summer
By: Amara Date: May 12, 2018, 12:08 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Does anyone else go looking on occasion for gifts or decorations
many months in advance of Christmas or Thanksgiving? I
definitely do. For last year's Christmas gift I was fortunate
enough to find, at my favorite thrift store, an unused cast iron
nonstick wok for my sister in February, ten months ahead of
time. It cost $5, the perfect "stocking stuffer." (It didn't
actually fit in the stocking, of course.) This year, in March, I
       started looking for ornaments.
I have a lipstick red tree with red lights and I have a passion
of old fashioned-style (or original) ornaments, especially
mercury glass one--only in red, of course. So I browsed Etsy and
found three I loved. One is very large and very heavy; it may be
too heavy for the tree but I'll use it for decor if it is. I
also happened to come across these birch trees from RH (
  HTML https://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod2770034<br
/>) and ordered the 3-foot one for an unbelievably discounted
price. I was going to get the smaller one but immediately after
I ordered it they took the page down. I guess they didn't like
selling it for that price. :D
Does anyone else like the holidays so much they shop for them in
February, March, April, May, June, July and August? (crafters
and DIYers excepted as they have to allow time to make their
       items)?

I shop throughout the year, for Christmas and birthday gifts,
along the lines of: i see something and think "Oh, So-and-So
would love this!" I have a box into which everything goes, both
specific items (i.e. scarves for mum) and more generic gifts are
stored there, and I just pull out items for upcoming
       birthdays/holidays as needed.
i do find sometimes, that doing it this way means I 'over buy'
occasionally, but since scarves for example can be a generic
gift as well as specific to one person, it works out well, and I
always have a something on hand!

I do, but it's more to save money and spread the cost rather
than a specific love for Christmas
I usually buy from the Boxing Day Sales on, a mixture of both
birthday and Christmas presents - so when Pandora had their 70%
off sale I got charms for my daughters for both birthday and
       Christmas
Don't tend to buy full price things far in advance

I plan for Christmas pretty much all year. ^^
This includes making cards, finding gifts (either buying them or
saving the idea for later), buying decorations (or materials to
make them myself), and calculating my expenses. I also always
make sure to save up some spare money for myself, and some
off-work days to use around Christmas so I can splurge a bit and
enjoy the season in whatever way I choose. Sometimes this means
going to museums or a zoo, sometimes it means a trip to an
amusement park or an additional Christmas market. Sometimes it
means buying some new books or DVDs and snacks.
I find that this allows me to be a lot more relaxed and able to
really enjoy Christmas. And it also makes it easier to find the
right gifts for my friends, than if I only started looking for
them a few weeks in advance.

So glad to read that others do this too. I tend to hit the
dollar store a few times a year for stocking stuffers that are
put away until there are stockings. But also watching sales and,
beginning in March, seek out online Christmas stuff as it tends
to get greatly discounted (a la the RH birch trees). I wouldn't
pay full price for them in November but I do like the April
       price very much. ;)

I don't deliberately shop all year round for anybody, or any
holiday, but when I see something I know somebody would like, I
am ALL over that item, and it goes in the back of the closet to
estivate until it's time to hand it over. You betcha! I don't
need to be broke at certain seasons, I can spread it out over
       months!

I found out, by accident, that shopping on Christmas Eve for the
following year's Christmas gifts and decorations can be both fun
and thrifty. One year, a miracle happened and everything I
needed to do was done early so I went to our mall and people
watched. I helped an older woman with her bags, picked up and
returned a shoe that a little one had kicked off, and I shopped.
The sales were incredibly good and I bought timeless items and
put them into my gift drawer for the future. It was fun and I
have done it a few times in the following years.

I know several people who do shop during the summer for
Christmas gifts, but I never have.
       It's a great idea though!
I have however, bought boxes of Christmas ornaments on clearance
for the following year. I LOVE ornaments.

I’m Australian so I always do my Christmas shopping in spring
       and summer.
