I'm taking the older daughter to West Edmonton mall to hit the
water park. We're only bringing a small carry-on each, so it
should be okay to walk the minute at the transfer point.
Unless someone comes here and says "Oh goodness!!!! don't do
it!!" I'll probably opt for the transit option. The time
difference isn't that big (between transit and shuttle).
       Thanks for your input!

You say you're traveling during the day, but something you
should consider is what times during the day you'll be
traveling. If it's during the morning or evening commute, the
public transit may not be a practical option as the bus/train
may be full of commuters and there may not be room for you &
       your luggage.

If there were a metro with a station right there at the airport,
       I would take it.
However, a bus is trickier- especially in a city where you are
not familiar with the routes and sites.
I have taken shuttles from the airport. Mostly worth it.
Arranging for rides back is a royal pain in foreign countries
that are not in the North American Numbering Plan- but cost
       itself is worth it.

One time we were taking the public bus from the airport in
Ireland to Dublin. We knew what stop we had to get off at...but
tThere was no signage on the bus that updated with what stop you
were at/was coming up next. So we asked the bus driver to let us
know. He didn't. Fortuneately my DD saw the sign at the bus stop
       and we all ran off!
