Card & Craft Ideas
By: Irishkitty Date: July 24, 2018, 11:04 am

Hi everyone.
I thought we might start a thread for sharing new ideas for
cards and similar craft items.
I make them, and have a tonne of materials but often get stuck
for ideas, particularly when it's someone that I have to make
repeated cards for (especially DH and Father). I dunno, neither
are really into sports, so the usual 'male' card ideas don't
work for me. I've done wine themed cards with quilled bunches of
grapes, music themed cards, cat theme cards...
Currently looking for some inspiration for Father's 65th
Birthday. He loves Cats, Music, Wine & Beer, Comedy, Rugby... I
was going to add gardening and cooking, but they are lesser
hobbies if you will!
I know that Pinterest is great for inspiration, but generally
that just inspires me to buy more items! ;D Seriously, I could
probably buy enough cards for every occasion for the rest of my
life if i sold all the items I had for making cards... and still
make a profit!

For some reason I couldn't upload the other picture, think it's
too large.
Here is a Christmas Ornament for Oisin

I don’t have a lot of elaborate stuff, but I’ve found lots of
fun quotes by older comedians that fit some fun pictures. And of
course there are lots of nice quotes about different subjects, I
do attribute them, of course. Sometimes I do decorate them but
don’t have skill and imagination to do the kind of work you do!
Mine are well received and I don’t think there is a problem
because I don’t sell them.

So, I don't do cards; however, I do a lot of crafts and have
gotten some positive feedback on saying that I put on cakes. So,
I thought of the craft I did many years ago with a Cub Scout
pack. We had wooden miniature saws, the perfect size for key
chains. I had the boys paint them and then write:
"Dad, you're a cut above the rest."
I was thinking that, for a card, an old time picture of two
guys with one of those saws that takes a guy at each end to cut
down a tree would be funny. And use the words from the key
chain.
Modified to say "guy" not "gut!"

I was at a gift shop in July and found a package of cute
cardboard drink coasters. I bought them and will use them on the
front of cards. I may add a note to the recipient that she can
take it off and use it as a coaster.

What a great idea! Sometimes Michaels has those with really cute
sayings, too. Mental note made! Thank you!

I'm looking on eBay for a die cutting machine [Cuttlebug], and
have just ordered some dies [getting ahead of myself much? ::)],
so I'm going to lurk here for a while and gather inspiration.

I was going to buy some charms at Hobby Lobby today, but the
clerk said that they weren't on sale. I'll wait. The package had
2 wrenches, 2 saws, 2 that I can't remember, and 2 hammers. I
want the hammers so I can give them to DGD, to wear as earrings,
with a note that says she should always remember that she's as
tough as nails!

I got a different die cutting machine, as there's only so many
times I can face bidding and losing... [emoji15]
I ordered another few dies - really cheap, thus I have to wait a
month or so for the slow boat from China for them to arrive.
I'm itching to have a go! [emoji1]
