Easy ideas for casual Friday drinks?
By: Lilac Date: July 18, 2018, 6:45 pm

I've invited several couples over for drinks Friday evening, to
see my garden and greenhouse. it's very casual and they know
it's for an early-evening drop-in period; there will be no
expectation on their part of a meal or extended stay. I'm
thinking they'll be here from about 6:30 to 8 or 6-7:30, and
we'll all go separate ways afteraward. They all are in their
50s and I know at least one of the couples eats early, around 5
p.m., as part of a training/workout regimen in preparation for a
race. None of us like or consume many sweets.
So -- I have on hand the beers and wine they like. I'm not a
cook and not an adventurous eater. Veggie/dip tray and
cheese/cracker/relish tray is about the extent of my culinary
skill for an occasion like this. But I feel one more savory
item to set out on the patio table would snaz things up a bit.
Any suggestions/ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Bagel chips or bread bites with spinach dip.
Deviled eggs.
Meatballs.
Mini sandwiches. Just cut regular sandwiches into quarters.
Pinwheels.
Pizza squares.
Don't be afraid of frozen appetizers. Most taste very good.

Take a brick of cream cheese and set it out on a small platter
(about 30-45 minutes before serving). When you're ready to
serve, pour or spoon some sort of jam/jelly over the top and
serve with crackers.
My all-time favorite version of this was with a
blueberry-chipotle jelly, but whatever flavor you feel like
using will probably be good.

I like to have a bready type item. Something easy like slicing a
baguette and serving with a bruschetta topping is always easy.
You can buy one or make an easy one with dicing up tomatoes,
green olives, a little parmesan cheese and some olive oil, basil
and a squeeze of lemon.

I like the idea of cheesy breadsticks (use any kind of
dough--frozen/thawed pizza dough or bread dough, or Pillsbury
breadsticks in the tube; brush w/ egg white or butter, sprinkle
w/ grated hard cheese and maybe garlic powder, and bake), bcs
people can wander through your garden eating them.
You can cut them into sticks and roll them (or leave flat but
twist them) before baking, or you can spread the dough out , top
w/ cheese type stuff, and bake as a big flat thing, and then cut
after baking.
For a fancy look, I'd flatten the dough, but into strips, coat
with butter and cheese & garlic salt, and twist, then put on the
baking sheet.
