My most sexist former boss was female (I posted about her on the
previous board as "my former horrible boss"). She let my male
colleagues get away with murder, relatively, but the
expectations for me were way, way higher. She would always say
that she was "only trying to help!", but it was never helpful -
it was always negative and derogatory.
That being said, the behavior described by the boss here would
drive me completely insane. I would probably say something like,
"You know, competence on a given task is inversely proportional
to the number of observers. I'll do this *much better* if you're
not watching. Can I bring this to you as soon as I'm done?"
But, honestly? And it may be my previous experience informing
this - it sounds like the boss is trying to force the OP out,
for whatever reason. There's no winning, or even breaking even,
with that kind of attitude. I'd be polishing up my resume.

I would be apt to say something along the lines of "Is there
something I can help you with" followed by a stare. When she
says no, then "Okay, then, can I get back to my work, please?"

I've never had a job where sassing my BOSS would be acceptable.

Hi all!!! Sorry for the delay in responding, I left on vacation
the day after that post and was blissfully not thinking about
work for 3 weeks haha!
I had the chance to employ some of your suggestions this week
and it seemed to work! To give a little more background, the
woman who has been hired as my new boss has plenty of experience
in completely different field,but she's still learning the ropes
around here and she has a very hard time listening to her
subordinates ::)..So when I returned from vacation she left a
note on my desk asking me to publish some documents.So I went in
her office and in a really cheery tone of voice said “Hi I saw
your note and its no problem for me to publish these documents,
however they haven't been adopted by the board of directors and
they have not been signed by the President. Would you prefer
that I send them now anyways?” she had no choice but to say yes,
you're right, its not time to send them yet thank you for
pointing it out to me! :D this is a huge departure from her
usual defensive attitude it was awesome!
As for standing too close to me, I was (un)lucky enough to come
back from vacation with a terrible cold so when she was standing
over me last time I just turned away and started coughing and
she took several steps back and hasn't been hovering over me
since! I'm sure I'll eventually have to say something about it
when I'm back to normal though ;D

I haven't mastered the art of inserting quotes here but I'd like
to answer some of your questions!
-Unfortunately, we are 3 people in the office (including the
boss lady) and my other colleague does most of her work on the
road.. so I'm usually the only worker bee for her to focus on.
-Someone asked if she treats my co-worker this way: yes :-(
co-worker told me that she became the target of the
micro-managing while I was away.. (I felt a little vindicated to
know it wasn't personal)
I know I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and just say that the
standing close to me/dictating as I'm trying to type is
distracting/reduces my efficency, while making it clear that
this is a personal quirk of mine ::) and not an attack on her. I
really love working at this company and I don't want her
annoying management style to get in the way of me staying at a
job that I enjoy.

You copy and paste the stuff you want to quote into your reply,
and highlight it. Then you run your cursor along the row of
buttons above the row of emoticons, and click on the
speech-bubble one, the 6th from the right. Or, if for any reason
the buttons don't display on your device, the low-tech way is to
type quote between square brackets at the beginning, and /quote
between square brackets at the end.
If you copy quotes within quotes you just have to do each layer
of quotation separately; the quote format doesn't paste
automatically.

I just hit the quote button above the the post and delete out
what I don’t want. Then make sure to get below the last /quote
to enter my post. I would get lost if I did it your way. The
thing that happens often is not getting out of the quote box.

Also, Aleko's way works only if you don't care who wrote the
quoted message--when you do it that way you lose the names of
the authors.
I just hit the quote button above the the post and delete out
what I don’t want. Then make sure to get below the last /quote
to enter my post. I would get lost if I did it your way. The
thing that happens often is not getting out of the quote box.
Edit: fixed the quote tree so future readers don't have to be
embarrassed on my behalf anymore for my doing the quote thing
improperly on a post about doing the quote thing properly.

Oops! Bada's post illustrates how important it is to scroll down
to the very last quote. I do it, too.😨 (Is that
embarrassed? I would use it often if it is....)
