:o ??? Strongly encouraged to do something about it and now
becoming defensive?! Doesn't anyone at the company have the
authority to do more than "strongly encourage", not to mention
reprimanding him for his attitude? Good grief. I agree, it's a
real courtesy if your company lets you get small packages at
work, but they should not be more than one person can easily
       carry.

DH and I got a kick out of "strongly encouraged," too. [emoji1]

I am retired, but my employer (a government agency) didn't allow
personal packages to be delivered. Two or three times I had
Amazon deliveries of items I purchased for general use in the
office (kitchen towels, coffee filters, stuff like that), and I
always notified the mail room that they were coming. They
usually called me when they arrived so I could retrieve them
immediately. I don't know anybody who would have furniture
       delivered at work. That's crazy!

I imagine that government agencies and large companies are
concerned about the possibility of terrorism or other kinds of
sabotage, so restricting deliveries makes sense.

This yahoo is going to ruin it for everyone. Have they never
       heard of U-Haul?
Some years ago a library board member ordered a new stove. But
it was a "surprise" for his wife. So he had it sent to the
library. Where it sat. the middle of the parking lot. For a
week. In the pouring rain and freezing snow. We had to be
extra careful not to hit the blasted thing. He thought one of
us would drag it into the garage. Which was filled with book
shelves, books and had no room to speak of.
Your coworker needs an ultimatum and if they don't meet the
deadline, the furniture goes out on the sidewalk.

That is a humdinger of entitlement.
Most places I've worked didn't mind package deliveries to
employees, but anything bigger than a footstool would have
raised more than eyebrows. This employee clearly didn't think
about inconveniencing his company or what it would ultimately
cost to have all this stuff shipped to his home. I see a pink
       slip in his future.

We can have packages delivered at work, but unless it is work
related, no one gets anything bigger than say a laptop sent. We
have staff whose entire job is distributing this stuff to poeple
in the building. No way would it be tolerated for them to have
to receive and babysit furniture like this. Bad, bad planning.

Was your first thought "Finally!" - mine was - who orders
furniture for their house sent to work?

This is the sort of person who ruins things for others! :-\
Being allowed to accept packages at work is a privilege and
should be respected. It really is common sense whether the
       package is appropriate or not.
My job does not have an official policy, but we are a small
office and I know that Boss would not even bat an eye. I know
that many of the packages that I accept on his behave are
personal in nature. (In fact, I think he would be ok with
furniture being delivered, but I would not even imagine doing
so.) However, I think it is rather unprofessional to be handling
personal matters during work hours, so I try to avoid it. I have
simply risked my package sitting at the front door. I guess I am
lucky, because I have not had any issues yet. However, there
seem to be more and more package delivery options available now
       including the Amazon lockers.
I did have one package delivered to office a few years back. I
had ordered a laptop and it required a signature to be
delivered. After three attempts at being delivered to home, it
was taken to a post office out of my way where I had to leave
work early to pick the package up there. I decided that that was
more of an inconvenience to work, so the next time I ordered
one, I had it delivered to the office. I still felt guilty about
       doing it.
