Romantic blast from the past - what to do?
DIR By: Twik
Date: July 2, 2018, 8:10 am

The man who broke my heart 15 years ago called me last night at
1:30 :-\ Said he would “call tomorrow to catch up.”
I should:
A. Take the call, and give him an earful for the way he treated
me, then hang up.
B. Take the call, and see what he wants. We did have some good
times, and something must be wrong for him to be reaching out.
C. Be conveniently hard of hearing when the phone rings.
I think I know the best choice, but what do you folks say?

C is probably the healthiest choice.
That being said, curiosity is my besetting sin, so I'd probably
do B, but with a large note written in front of me that said,
"DO NOT agree to meet with him AT ALL!" just in case my will
started wavering.

Calling at 1:30 seems really odd. But I think curiosity would
get the better of me. Unless this guy had been abusive,
manipulative, or in other ways hurtful, I would probably take
the call. Just breaking someone's heart by deciding a
relationship is not right for them does not make the guy a bad
person.
I would not take the call, however, if there was any glimpse of
hope that you might start back up. Then you are setting yourself
up to get hurt or disappointed again.
And there is probably also the part of me that would not want
him to know that I still had any bad feelings about the breakup,
so yeah, pride might be one of my reasons to airily take his
call. "Jim, it's been ages. How are you? How did you even know
how to get in touch with me?"

Yeah, this would be me, all curious. Then I would kind of hope
that he would want to meet up, but I would be all "are you
kidding?!"

He hasn't changed. It's all still on his terms. Why the booty
call timing, just to leave that message?
I would ignore it completely.

Him calling at 1:30 makes me wonder if he'll actually follow
through on calling you. Perhaps that call was made while he was
a little inebriated, or perhaps he was feeling lonely or
something? Don't know.
I am curious by nature, but I've learned that sometimes it's
better to remain curious than to find out the truth. I vote for
not taking the call - and I wouldn't even pretend to be out of
hearing range. I would just make the conscious decision that
that part of my life was over and done with, and I wanted no
part of it.

If he really wanted to "catch up" he would have called at a
normal hour. Calling at 1:30 to tell you he's going to call
tomorrow doesn't make any sense. It indicates something odd like
he was drunk or he was trying to impress someone on his end or
who knows.
Sure, I'd be curious... but in reality, who cares? I'm curious
about a lot of things I don't bite on. All those links to
"here's the info you've been missing that could save your life/a
million dollars/etc. links on Facebook for example.
You don't have to act on everything you're curious about. So
yeah, me? I'd ignore. I'd block even. Who needs the heartache?

Would you truly benefit from taking this call? In the short term
your curiosity would be sated, but it seems like you were done
with this relationship 15 years ago. If it's actually
urgent/important (doubtful after 15 years) then he can leave a
VM.

Yeah. He didn’t sound inebriated, but when you’re woken up and
expecting something serious, it’s hard to tell.
Maybe he’s recently broken up or something. It was a very long
time ago, and he ended by ghosting me. So I suspect drama of
some sort.
And funny, I was thinking of him a while back that all in all it
was such a *good* thing I wasn’t still dating him. Must have
jinxed myself.
