Where are they selling to-go coffee cups with lids that can't be
sipped through?

Well, what do you know? It's true that it has never occurred to
me ever to buy coffee to drink on any form of public transport
that doesn't have seats and some kind of table to put a cup on,
but I had absolutely no idea that was what it was for.
Even so, I don't think you could reckon to drink your coffee in
that crush. Just cradling it with both hands in front of your
chest and trying to protect it from being squashed and splatting
everywhere would be as much as you could do. If you raised it to
your lips the chance of having it bashed into your face, or
knocked from your hand into someone else's, would be quite high.

I live in the SF Bay Area and ride BART when I have to.
BART police are armed like municipal police, and, frankly,
scarier. That had a bad record even before the Oscar Grant
killing. It's just as much an escalation of any incident to call
them as to call any other police.

I agree that the man who called for the police was over the top.
It isn't illegal to eat on the NYC subway and I don't have an
issue is someone is eating a roast beef sandwich or something
like that. However, anything in a clamshell takeout container
is getting out of line.

There’s actually a movie about that, if you all are interested
called “Fruitvale Station.” It’s a bit exaggerated, but not by
much.
