Love those quilts!
I crochet blankets out of second hand wool for a woman in town
who works in residential homes.
I think they are homes for people who have mental illnesses, but
honestly, I really don't know much about it.
I've donated five so far, and am working on my sixth at the
moment.

That's wonderful! Work your way through that home, then find
another! My real life quilt group does the nursing homes in the
area every so often. We just did a 30 bed place last year. It
was fun - they couldn't believe we were giving the quilts to
them. They kept saying "oh I can't pay for this!" Marie was the
most fun. I had helped her pick a quilt, and she was all excited
"oh is this for ME?! Oh how nice! and so on. Half an hour later
I hear "Oh, is this for ME?..." as someone else is talking to
her...then half an hour later...! LOL! Marie has some sort of
dementia - and I hope if I have to go through that, that I am as
happy and delightful as Marie. I kept thinking Marie would wake
up the next day and go "Oh, is this mine?! How nice!" I was
fortunate to meet Marie's sister months later, and she said that
Marie was like that all her life, she was such a sweet person.

gmatoy, what a great thing to do with the doll clothes, and fun
to make! Love your sister story. My mom used to make Barbie
clothes. Not for us when we were little - I had an aunt to who
gave us a Barbie with all the clothes* - Mom made them because
she was having fun! They were the best dressed Barbies in town,
let me tell ya. I think my little cousin got a lot of them
*Auntie made us wedding gowns with pearl beads on them in a
design, with veils. She hand knit sweater and skirt sets (1960's
style, it was the '60s after all!). One had a lamb's wool
jacket, and one had a fur wrap. I forget what all they had, but
they were mighty stylish! I think I still have one or two of the
Barbies, and one of the wedding gowns.

I love hearing your story, also! I have to admit that the only
reason I could make so many (one year I made over a hundred) to
donate is that I figured out a shortcut way to make evening
gown. Otherwise, I wouldn't make so many!

It's amazing how many evening gowns a Barbie (or other fashion
doll) *needs* - she must be working on TV & turning letters on a
game show or some such thing!

I play the flute. I don't get paid but I have played for
churches, charity functions, military funerals, civic events and
am currently playing with a Baroque ensemble. Once, I played
for a kiddie pageant sponsored by a small farming community. I
got paid in strawberries. ;D

I re-vamp used dolls or buy new ones to donate to a charity. I
just returned yesterday from Kentucky where I took over 50 dolls
(with a wardrobe), other toys, and clothes for distribution to
poor families in the Appalachian Mountain region. I am retired
so enjoy sewing, quilting and embroidery as part of my hobbies.
It brings me great joy to see the videos of the children
receiving these gifts.

Ah...I probably have twelve pattern envelopes for fashion dolls
(Tammy and Barbie - very different bodies) and a separate
collection of historically correct Barbie doll costumes for
different eras. No granddaughters though....I'd have to make
them for myself. I just need to find some very thin fabrics.
Or blow them up to fit the somewhat more realistic body of the
My Size Barbie (who I understand is a half scale size 10 - just
which era's size 10 and ready-to-wear or pattern/bridal size 10
I haven't checked the measurements against). I also have
pattern drafting software - that I need to update to work on an
operating system after Vista...
The "no granddaughters" and "bifocals or reading glasses to
thread needles" are the two biggest reasons that I haven't been
making comparatively tiny little pieces of fabric into doll
clothes.
That and the grandsons do like dressing up for the Renaissance
Festival and are young enough to be constantly outgrowing
everything. Reminds me - where did I put the t-shirts that I
was going to embroider with Marvel tm super heroes? We see them
again after the middle of August, I need to have those
embroidered & packed!
