I had surgery on Friday to remove a plate from my leg (used to
hold the tibia at the correct angle after my knee realignment in
February). Cool, all goes well, they send me home on Saturday.
Apparently it’s quite common for patients to bleed a lot after
this procedure, because removal of the screws leaves several
holes all the way through your bone. It would have been nice if
they’d warned me about this, because I woke up on Sunday with
the dressing looking like someone had sneaked in during the
night and taped a raw blood pudding to my leg. :o :P

Oh my! I am so sorry! Sounds a bit like my poor friend, who had
mouth surgery and woke up later in the day, he said, looking
like an axe murderer had been in his room! Some of what he told
me is too gross for me to write here, though some of you
wouldn't mind, I know, but it kind of makes me ill to think
about. I hope you're recovery goes well!

A few days ago, while sitting at my computer, I felt a rather
large zit by my ear. I squeezed it, heard it pop and then hit my
cheek. It was a very large black head. I wish I would have done
it in the bathroom, to witness this.

I used to think I was the only person who found stuff like this
oddly satisfying. Especially when you can hear them pop. (I used
to be prone to zits in the outer ear canal; they are definitely
audible.)

I like to watch the good youtube videos at night to calm my
brain. Some of them are so satisfying to watch.

We bought a mesh dog bed for our incontinent paralyzed dog to
sleep on. It is great and helps to keep her drier at night
instead of sitting in her urine. One night she pooped the bed.
Well, clean off what you can and take it outside to be hosed
down (which we have to do everyday anyways due to urine). I had
an early appointment that day and didn't get to clean it until
late afternoon.
I noticed that there were a lot of flies congregating on the
mesh bed. No worries! It was going to be sprayed down with odo
ban and rinsed off with the hose - no big deal. There was a
circular white spot on the bed, which I sprayed and hosed off
rather well. Not sure what it was, maybe dried urine? Turned
the bed over to rinse the other side, and there was that white
spot (about 5 inches in diameter). Rinsed it hard. Turned over
- and there it was on the top side again. WTH...…..got down to
see it clearly, what could be tiny, white? No - it couldn't
have been those flies - right? Yep, hundreds of fly eggs,
sticking to the mesh. Some had dislodged and were now sticking
to the metal poles that are the bed's legs. Some were now
inside the pole legs, in the rubber leg ends, in the fabric at
the sides of the mesh. Thousands of eggs. I just knew that
they would be on me too as I had been moving the bed by the
metal legs. Good grief! What if I hadn't gotten down and
peered at them from an inch away and had brought that bed back
into the house? Would I have had maggots on the dog? How many
flies would have hatched in my house? So many questions.
It took an hour to be sure that all eggs were gone, it took
bleach, soaking, etc. I couldn't make dinner (cause even though
I had showered, what if I had an egg or two under a
fingernail?). In the end, we still use that bed, because it
does serve a purpose - but I get up earlier to clean it
immediately now. I'm itchy just writing this.

But you're taking care of your dog in the best way possible.
Giving her wonderful care in the last years of her life. She
knows and understands that you are, and have been, the best
human ever in her life.
Major kudos to you for putting up with the "Ick".

@runningstar - been there with our darling Jess (cat), she had a
stroke a couple of weeks before she passed on. It's amazing the
amount of sickness and ickyness you will so willingly deal with
in order to make them comfortable and loved.
Our new little rascal is a ferocious hunter, despite being well
fed and having a collar with bell. This weekend alone she caught
1 bird and two mice (that we know of!). The mice she played with
until she was sure we saw them, and congratulated her on
catching, then she got down to the busy business of eating them,
head first. The bird she threw against the window, smearing it's
blood, until we acknowledged her prowess... :'(

Sorry for laughing, but I've had a cat like that. So it's mainly
out of sympathy.
