       I like the "sendoff" idea up-thread.  As for gifts in the
       workplace, my thought has always been this:  most of us are
       working to make money, although there may be a few fortunate
       independently wealthy people who do it for the joy of getting up
       every day with something to do.  It is impossible to know
       everyone's financial status and I think it puts undue pressure
       on folks to put together a group gift.

       If you think the plan as emailed to you by Joe violates company
       policy, you should definitely have done a REPLY ALL pointing
       this out. If not, you should clean your mind of everything you
       personally feel or think about Carol and decide if you wish to
       participate in the gifting in the form proposed, or not. That's
       all.
       And yes: why the heck are you following this woman on Facebook
       anyway?
