I have never rolled my eyes at cookies or any such treat. I will
never forget the year that a child brought me in fresh out of
the oven banana bread!!! I was trying to eat it on my drive home
without a knife! =P
[/quote]
Just a few weeks ago, we'd planned to make a banana cake after
school, and DD told her teacher, who made appropriate "yum"
noises, so the next morning we handed her a container with a
good sized piece of the cake.

If DD needs my services, let me know. #willworkforbananacake

I always got gift cards for my son's teachers to either
Chapters/Indigo books or some teaching supply store. I figured
they got enough #1 teacher stuff and that way if they normally
bought stuff for the classroom out of pocket (as some teachers
have to), they could use the gift cards.

OP with a final update. We had contributed to teacher
appreciation day recently, and the class parents (two parent
volunteers for organization purposes) had organized a couple of
end-of-year canvas bags that all the kids signed that we also
contributed to, so our family decided to just go for cookies and
cards. DD and I made cookies of her choice (cut-outs, with her
very specific choice of shapes and sugar crystal colors), and
she made a card for each teacher, and we distributed them the
final morning, just a few per teacher (7 total, since we gave to
the two classroom teachers, PE, art, music, library, and the
school nurse). I think our choice was good and personal enough
for the 6 year old to feel like she was doing something, rather
than just handing over something her parents bought.

I think this was a great idea. I especially like the fact that
you included the nurse, librarian, and the PE, Art, and music
teachers. Just a few cookies is also a good choice since a
teacher often gets more than one food gift. Good thinking. As a
teacher, I always appreciated gifts that let me know I was
appreciated. You don't need to go overboard with teacher gifts.

It's a little late for this year, but maybe next year:

That's hilarious! Luckily, I think my child is one of the
pretty tame ones.

My kiddo is a little accident prone *and* had strep twice this
year, so she saw the nurse a fair bit; it seemed fair to give
her something back. I'll never skimp on the librarian side,
since I am one (academic, not school), plus library is one of
the regular "extras" the kids get at school. If we had more
time and wanted to do even more next year, I'd add in the
administration as well (school secretary, principal and VP, and
the family liaison), all of whom are also wonderful, just
possibly without the personal note from the kid.

Child has decided that she wants to give her current teacher a
gift this year, as she'll have a different teacher next year.
Thanks to this thread, I have several ideas, and Child and I
will be organising it shortly.
