       I..ya didn't do that
By: Isisnin Date: June 7, 2018, 9:27 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Well, I just had my performance review at my retail job. A
process I admit I never like at any job. But this one was
probably the most illogical I've ever had so I'd like to write a
response and would appreciate your help making my point but yet
       also being polite.
So the issue is that my manager told me verbally that she is
using reviews to inform workers of procedural changes along with
actual critiques of the employee's individual performance. FYI,
she claims she is doing this on everyone's review (I think she
means everyone's review that she does. There are other managers
who review other employees. so this may not be happening with
those reviews). But, just after my review, I had occasion to do
one of the new procedures and the supervisor questioned what I
was doing. I asked the supervisor if she had had her review yet
and was it with "my manager". Yes, she had had her review and it
was by the same manager and no, the manager didn't write in the
review or tell the supervisor about this new policy. Oookay...
If I apply to transfer to another store, they will read this
review and it does give the impression that I do a lot of things
wrong, which is not what the manager is saying (according to
her). So I'd like to clarify in my written response on the
review that my manager has verbally said that I am not doing
things wrong but she is just informing me of new procedures.
Unfortunately this is also muddied by the fact that she did
include what I actually did do wrong (a couple things) and need
       to correct.
So I'm totally stymied as to how to write this.
       Any ideas?
(edited to change apprentice to appreciate and no, spelling was
       not on my review LOL!)

       Manager:
I wanted to clarify that we discussed both new procedures and
areas of improvement during my review. The new procedures are
tasks/expectations that the company has for all employees going
forward. The Areas of Improvement are specific to me.
       The new procedures included:
       1) Saying hello to all customers
       2) etc
       3) etc
       The Areas of Improvement included:
       1) Asking other employees if they need help
       2) etc

Thank you very much bopper. Effective and respectful.
FYI, I've decided to also request on the eval some inexpensive
items to help us abide by policy. E.g. we now have to add up in
our heads, or I suppose paper and pencil would be ok, before we
do returns. Well between taxable, nontaxable and different tax
rates, that gets really algebraic. So we need calculators. Oy!
