Uber strangeness

The Uber I ordered last night rocked up with two people in the
front seat. Male driver, female passenger.
I hesitated to get in, and said “I’m sorry, I’m not used to
getting into an uber with two people in the front seat.”
The passenger said “I’m his Mom.” I got in but was very
uncomfortable.
So I reported it later that night, after some consideration.
They refunded my money, but I didn’t really care about that.
Would you be uncomfortable with this and would you report it?

Not a bit. But then, I use the "economy" uber option which
allows for the car to fill to capacity. My last trip, the
driver picked me up, then a passenger near my pickup, whose
drop-off was en route to my drop-off, then dropped me off. No
big deal.

I almost always use the Uber pool so i am used to having other
riders. if i were paying extra for a regular Uber then yeah it
would be strange but not a big deal (to me).

It probably would have given me pause if I had not ordered a
shared Uber. I do think it's a little strange to have a
non-paying passenger in the car. And depending on time of day or
location may have made me feel unsafe.

The very first uber I took the drivers girlfriend was in the
front seat and she talked to my friend and I during the entire
ride. It seemed sort of weird, but since I had never taken an
Uber before I thought it was normal. Now that I use ride-share
services a lot, I would definitely think it was weird for there
to be someone in the front seat. Since that very first time,
I've never had another person in the car.

Uber was originally a ride-sharing app, and so I think you might
expect to end up sharing the car with whoever the driver had
along with him. It was about sharing rides with regular people
who were also going roughly where you were.
Of course, commerce pushes itself in everywhere, so now it's
really more of a taxi dispatch service.

Oh sorry, I should have explained that it was not a rideshare
Uber. So the equivalent of calling a cab and the driver having a
friend along. It was definitely not his Mom, either.

If I had ordered and paid for a private ride and not been given
one, I definitely would have spoken up. If the driver has a
companion, that should be disclosed and accepted by the customer
prior to pick-up.

This was my first thought. Especially if it had been another man
in the car I'd have been concerned about being outnumbered.
Regardless of the sex if the people, you're still outnumbered,
unexpectedly, by a team of strangers. I wouldn't like that at
all.
And then add to it that she SAID she's his mother, but that you
say no way she was. That's a little skeevy too.

The bottom line is that Uber doesn't allow this. I recall seeing
a tweet where a man commented how funny it was that the driver's
young child was in the car with them, and Uber requested the
name of the passenger and driver so they could take action (he
refused to give that info to them). I personally wouldn't get in
the vehicle and would report it unless the passenger was a very
young child.
