Either way, TaskRabbit is not the answer to my problems. When I
put in my address, it states that I am outside of their area. (I
am rather surprised, because although I am in the suburbs, I do
live near a fairly large city in a large housing community.)
Bummer... I spent most of yesterday in tears trying to figure
out how to do tasks that are simply too big for me. But thank
you for the recommendation... I'm saving it! =)

TAKL is similar service, I've even heard some radio ads for it.

Oh yay!!! I will have to look into this one, too! Thanks a
       bunch!

Craigslist may be another option, if they're in your area.
There are posts for quite a variety of tasks. I imagine
TaskRabbit is a slightly higher end, more professional service,
but Craigslist may serve your needs.

there's a legal standard that says, essentially, the
professional is supposed to know more than the customer, and can
be held responsible for being so.
Not trying to give legal advice, but just to say that this seems
like a fair principle to apply, even though he WASN'T a
       professional mover.
He was taking money for the job. That puts a bigger burden on
       him.
So no, it was not your responsibility to check into which dolly
he had or whether he had a bungee cord.
And him asking you to balance things was a little over the line
       anyway.
I think it's totally fair to ding him in all the places that you
       are questioning yourself.
Because HE should have been questioning himself in those same
       areas.
This is someone who doesn't think through the complexities of
the job he's putting himself out there to do. Now, he might
learn and get better, but I think you should follow your
instincts about how to rate him, and you should stop questioning
       yourself.
       [/quote]
This is so very very true. I recently went through Home Advisor
to get a tree trimming service, and it turned into a big
headache. Mostly because the professional ( 8) Ha!) did not
seem to have a good grasp of what was required (this is the same
guy I wrote about in Professional Darwinism thread). I didn't
know how complex the job would turn into, but neither did he!
This is my first time, and he does this for a living. He should
know what questions and concerns to address.
Perhaps in your review, you can say he was very willing to do
the job, but seemed to lack experience. Potential employers
need to be very specific on what is required, both in skills and
in equipment. And perhaps say that with a little more
experience, I am certain he will be very good.

I honestly wouldn't say this. For one, you can't know. And for
another, I think it's more than is appropriate.

I can't say this in part because he seemed oblivious/not
self-conscious at all as to how ill-equipped he was for the
task. I also have personally known people (one of whom I'm about
to make a post requesting advice about) who are of sound mind
and body but literally don't learn from past experiences. For
all I know he's one of those people.

I also wonder if you were hiring 1 person for a 2 person task.
Maybe if you were an experience mover a person could do it by
themselves, but if you were just a random dude then maybe two
       people would be needed.
