Huh? This implies they got annoyed because you were preventing
them from taking your lunch. Are they serious?

We didn't have food thieves, but there were a couple of mistakes
where someone would heat up the wrong frozen meal when there
were multiples in the freezer.

At my previous office I had this issue with yogurt. People would
just pick up any flavor if they had brought one in and eat it
without checking that it was theirs. It didn't matter if I had
my name in bold black marker on it...mine would bet eaten
anyway. Most of the time this wasn't a problem, but I got burned
several times with being left nothing but strawberry yogurt or
other brands that I couldn't have due to my food allergies. I'm
allergic to strawberries and I can't have anything with beet
food coloring or beet sugar (if it just states natural vegetable
food coloring, that's out as well since it is almost certainly
from beets). Any idea how many varieties of yogurt that nixes???
A few people got pissy because I got fed up and started bringing
my lunch in an insulated lunch bag and locking it in my file
cabinet.

Put in put it in a plastic or paper bag with your name on it.
That makes it just enough harder for the traders to deal with. I
still think it’s just as easy to use an insulated lunch bag and
blue ice even with a longer commute. Our small bags have a
shoulder strap.

We had some food thieves last autumn. Surprisingly, the company
took care of the problem. Everyone knows that we have cameras
everywhere in the factory except the bathrooms so the offenders
were fired more for being stupid for knowingly doing it on
camera.
The first was a temp who had only worked there a few weeks. He
went through someone's lunch bag that was very distinctive. A
few hours later when they looked at the camera they walked him
out the door.
Two days later a maintenance person on second shift took the
lunch of a young pregnant woman (his wages were about double
hers). On camera you could see him take the package, leave the
break room and go directly into the men's room. He then came
out of the men's room and went by the large doors in shipping to
chow down on her chicken wings.
His shift was over so he went home. When the supervisors told
HR the next morning she knew who it was since he had been caught
twice before. They walked him out the next day.
A month after that the electric went out in the factory in the
middle of the night. We had to all gather in the break room
where there was emergency lighting. While we were sitting
there, the vending machine man was filling his machines with
soda, chips, sandwiches, etc. The next day when they were going
through the camera to make sure everyone was where we supposed
to be, they saw a temp stealing sandwiches from the vending
machine guy. They fired him.
I haven't heard of any food thieves since then.

I was told I was being "melodramatic and overreacting." Of
course none of these people had a single food allergy among
them, so they had idea what I had to go through if someone ate
my food... Even if it was an accident.

I would react as you did even without allergies! In fact, I did.

I'd like the part where the cuplrit said they shouldn't have to
wolf down food they paid for.
I have no words.

I always knew that food thieves must have a very different
thought process...and I was right about one other thing...I
really can't comprehend her attitude about enjoying food that
she's paid for. She's not allowing the people who paid for the
food that she ate to enjoy I themselves, after all!

She says she doesn't have enough time but she's forcing others
to waste their time getting more food or go without. Probably go
without since they only have 20 minutes too.

And, it's only a 4 hour shift, of course you only get 20
minutes, that's a coffee break, not a lunch break, not to
mention why can't she bring her own.
