"Anne-Marie's an elephant, playing in the band" instead of
"Tambourines and elephants are playin' in the band" on "Lookin’
Out My Back Door" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. I think my
husband used to hear "Bain-maries and elephants..."
I'm going to enjoy this thread!

I heard it as "Memories and elephants".

My sister once wrote to Chad and Jeremy because we couldn't
figure out the words to one of their songs. (A Summer Song). We
heard "Sweet Cindy walks on summer nights". They were nice
enough to write back and correct us - "Sweet sleepy warmth of
summer nights."

^ That's too funny! Now I have to go and look up the real lyrics
because what the subtitles said sounded exactly like what was
sung! ;D

I read that Eddie Vedder himself isn’t even sure what he was
saying at points and he doesn’t sing it the same way every time.

WAy back in the dark ages, my toddler would sing along to
Sesame Street.
last line : "...can you tell me how to get, howto get to
Stephanie Street..."
Yup, she thought it was her personalized theme song. <3

“I’m not talking bout the linens” instead of “I’m not talking
bout moving in” from England Dan “I’d really like to see you
tonight”
I always thought it was “talking bout the linens” too, until a
friend told me I was singing it wrong. She then told me it was
“talking bout religion,” so I started singing it that way!
I actually always thought it was “I’m not talking bout the
limit” when I was little.
I thought it was "I'm not talking about millennia" thinking we
don't have to be together for a long time.
Good to finally know the real words! ;D

Credence Clearwater Revival lyrics often seem to lend themselves
to mondergreens. I don’t know how many people thought ‘There’s
a Bad Moon on the Rise’ was ‘There’s a Bathroom on the Right’.
Perhaps it’s because the song was heard in bars or pubs fairly
late on a Friday or Saturday evening.
‘Down on the Corner’ lyrics could almost warrant a thread of
their own.

I always sang, "Bringing Nickels to Happy Feet!" And I
explained to my brother when he told me that I was wrong, that
it still made sense. I mean people busking are happy when coins
are thrown at their feet, right?
I usually keep singing the lyrics my way even after I learn they
are wrong.

Brad Paisley's ballad "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" has the
line "... they danced them a jig, and laughed and sang a new
song."
I once saw someone write that as "... they danced in the
ditch..."

It could well be - I looked it up on one of those lyrics
websites, and I'm not convinced they always get it right! ;D
