       How About Some Mondergreens?

A thread like this was fairly successful on the old boards. We
could have a bit of fun with it here.
For those who may not know, Mondergreens are amusing mistakes in
hearing song lyrics. The name supposedly comes from the
Scottish ballad ‘Sir Patrick Spens’. The line in question was
‘They killed Sir Patrick Spens and laid him on the green’.
Over generations, the line often became, ‘They killed Sir
       Patrick Spens and Lady Mondergreen’.
We all know these things. ‘Gladly the cross-eyed bear’ for
‘Gladly the cross i’d Bear’ is a classic many of us know from
       Sunday school.
One of my favorites is from ‘Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds’. The
line, ‘The girl with kaleidoscope eyes’ becomes ‘The girl with
       colitis goes by’.
My mother loved the song ‘Only the Lonely’ but wondered why such
a nice song had a silly name. She thought it was titled ‘Tony
       Baloney’.
You know many others like this. Pull up a chair. Get your
snack and beverage of choice and let’s have a good laugh.

My oldest grandson was riding with me one day and Taylor Swift's
"Our Song" came on. In the chorus she sings, "Our song is a
slamming screen door." He sang it as, "Our song is as lame as
       creamed corn." ;D

My mother mentioned that she'd heard a song on the radio that I
liked in my teens "Wake me up with some cocoa"
Wham's Wake Me Up Before You Go Go!

“I’m not talking bout the linens” instead of “I’m not talking
bout moving in” from England Dan “I’d really like to see you
       tonight”

"Anne-Marie's an elephant, playing in the band" instead of
"Tambourines and elephants are playin' in the band" on "Lookin’
Out My Back Door" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. I think my
husband used to hear "Bain-maries and elephants..."
I'm going to enjoy this thread!

The song "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" . . . My mother listened
to Englebert Humperdink* while I was growing up. I know there
are other artists who sang this song.
One day (I was maybe 10 or so) I started singing the words,
which I thought I knew well!
       I sang "By the time I pick up a cookie . . ."
My mother couldn't stop laughing and I didn't understand why
until she explained the real words . . .
       "By the time I make Albuquerque . . ."
*Side note: When my mother was 16, living in Austria during the
ending of WWII she had a sweet crush on a farmer boy who's name
was Engelbert Mosbrucker. She said that anybody with a name like
that was well worth listening to! ;D

I always thought it was “talking bout the linens” too, until a
friend told me I was singing it wrong. She then told me it was
“talking bout religion,” so I started singing it that way!

I actually always thought it was “I’m not talking bout the
       limit” when I was little.

^ That's too funny! Now I have to go and look up the real lyrics
because what the subtitles said sounded exactly like what was
       sung! ;D
