I would definitely see all caps as yelling, because that's a
common internet convention. However, once the reason was
explained to me, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, but it would be difficult to
train myself to not read it as yelling/emphatic. That's what I
"hear" when I see a few capped words in a post (which is not
difficult to deal with). If I couldn't, I probably wouldn't read
the posts from that poster. If someone I needed to e-mail with
always used all caps, I might try to have a conversation about
whether there were other options that would allow them to do
what they needed other than all caps because I do find it
difficult to read.

A visually impaired person does not need to type in all caps.
There are screen magnifiers that clip over the screen so the
words and pictures can be seen. My BFF's mom has one of these.
They can also change the font size on their screens so they can
see it.

Does anyone *actually* type in all caps to create the effect of
yelling?
I just think they aren’t good at typing and don’t understand
internet etiquette, about 95% of the time.

I have seen it happen (that email from our co-op president that
I mentioned).
And I've seen people use sporadic caps for emphasis so often
that it does feel like yelling.
So yes, it happens. But that's not always the reason for all
caps, and I'm with you on the idea that most of it is not really
understanding the etiquette.
Because especially when people are typing on a phone, if you
want to emphasize something, all-caps is SO much easier to get
to, since you only have to double-tap the shift key, instead of
switching to a different keyboard screen/layer (heck, I'm typing
on a computer, and you see that I typed "so" in all caps--I'm a
skilled touch typist who does a ton of composing (both writing
and typesetting) on the keyboard, and I still found the all-caps
function easier to get to.

All caps is actually harder to read for me. Always has been for
me, even before I go old and got bifocals and before I got
cataracts. Maybe because of all the books I've read I'm more
familiar with the shape of lowercase letters. I don't know,
but it's just easier to use standard capitalization than to use
all caps.

A few years before he died, my father had a pretty good stroke,
not his first. He found it nearly impossible to read standard
books, and asked us to email him using all caps, because that
was easier for him to read. I have NO idea why, but that was
his truth. It really bugged him that he could no longer read
books for pleasure, as that was something he had done all his
life, and to loose this just drove him nuts.

Prior to the internet, I typed a paper in all caps because I
thought that would make it seem longer. Didn't seem to bother
the professor as I got an A though I didn't think I deserved it
and not because of the typing.
