Hi all!
I've just finished three huge granny square blankets. I work
mainly from donated wool/yarn/acrylic/whatever and then donate
the blankets to a couple of places around town.
Now I am ready for a completely different crochet project - a
striped scrap blanket.
In sewing I found an amazing amount of fabric at a charity shop
that I did not need but absolutely had to have. On my list is a
BBQ cover, car cover, sewing machine cover and circle skirt.
Are you really making a car cover out of fabric? I'm a bit
boggled by the idea, as I'm only used to seeing canvas* or
tarpaulins. And a BBQ? Won't the fabric get all yukky really
quickly?
* My husband has a canvas bike cover; it is a nightmare when it
gets wet... And, being a Brit, I live on a soggy little island,
so it gets wet a lot of the time. I'm so grateful we now have a
garage (of sorts).
Sorry, I'm not trying to attack you - I hope my post doesn't
come across that way - I'm desperately attempting to make the
idea work in my brain. :-[ :-[ :-[
Sewing machine cover: I have no problems imagining that looking
pretty. And circle skirt? Lovely!
Do you have any pics of the blankets that we could admire? :D
LOL! I am pretty sure she means the car and bbq cover will be
out of appropriate materials, not like, cotton fabric! And I
salute her industriousness - I bought a bbq cover - I would not
want to make one of those, never mind a car cover. I don't even
know what you call that material, maybe some sort of canvas.

I think my brain must have been on a short holiday. :-[ ::)
The only thing I can think of to say in my defence is that I was
clearing out my Watched Item list on eBay, and was scrolling
past bundle after bundle of fat quarters [all Christmas themed,
that I never got around to choosing]... I sort of pictured a
patchwork quilt of some kind for the car. :-[
D'oh.

Haha hi all,
never sure about quote trees so just going to reply here.
Yep, I'll make a bbq cover and a car cover out of the fabric I
bought. The fabric seems tougher than normal fabric.
For me, the interest is really in making the thing rather than
how long it will last outside.
Our BBQ is under cover, and it will get dirty from the bbq and
from wind blowing rain in from the side. But I'll just wash it
until it gets raggedy then i'll toss it.
Car cover might be the wrong term - Our cars stay outside so
there is a lot of frost this time of year. I'm envisioning more
of a windscreen cover that can go on the outside of the car and
maybe tie around the mirrors? We're in Australia so it is not
wet and soggy, more cold and sunny at the moment.
I've also made outside bunting for our garden - I'm loving
outside stuff at the moment!
I'll post a photo once I finish the car/ bbq cover

Silversurfer, looking forward to see what you come up with. I
just bought a windshield cover for my car a couple years ago. It
was very inexpensive - cheaper than a metre of cotton fabric
even! I had wanted one for years, and kept saying I should just
do what my grandpa did - put a blanket over the windshield. But
I never had a blanket I wanted to use. It's a life saver in the
winter, not having to scrape the frost.
Miriam - a patchwork cover would be great!

Silversurfer: it all makes more sense now. I know
[intellectually] that people live in civilised climates, but I
tend to forget that means they don't get constantly rained on!
;) ;D I'd love to see photos when you've done. We have the
so-cheap-I-had-to-try tarpaulins for the windscreen, and they
save a lot of scraping in the winter. When they 'die', I might
re-purpose some old bed sheets in your honour.
Pattycake: I think that should be your next project. ;D ;D ;D

If I had a cute little car, I would consider it! If I had an
older car, I would consider doing whatever the car equivalent of
decoupaging would be, but with fabric - wouldn't that be
interesting!

That would be awesome! My husband took a photo of a Trabant
that was decoupaged, sitting in a hotel hallway in Germany
somewhere; makes me wish I knew where that was.

Still haven't sewn a single stitch on the jeans quilt! Keep
getting side tracked by other projects. Last night and today, I
worked on a mend job for our DGD. She had bought a very nice
wool shirt/jacket without realizing that it had a tear going
straight up from the sleeve placket. I hemmed a rectangle of
flannel, sewed the tear with big ugly basting stitches (the
better to pull them out when done), and then sewed on the
rectangle of flannel to the underside of the jacket. Having done
all of that, I zigzagged over the tear until I felt like it was
secure. then I had to sew the placket back into place. Not hard
but time consuming! The things a grandmother does for the light
of her life!
I also bought some more bags of fabric and some fabric that I
thought I'd just give away, turn out to be perfect for more
infinity scarves. So that is now on my list of "need to do."
Okay, going off to work on the other mending that DGD brought
over for me to do. (Sew on a button, but first find a button
that will work, and fix a waistband of a too big skirt.)

Tomorrow I'm making some more hair scrunchies for DD's SIL.
She's like an extra kid for me; I tell her mother that she did a
great job raising kids for me to love on! I got the fabric
ironed, torn into the strips and ready to serge. I've just done
too much today to be able to do these. I've found that if I try
to do "one last thing," I mess it up every time! So I'll wait
until morning. They'll be here this weekend for our DGS's 1st
birthday.

After working on my origami boxes for a couple hours, I sat down
and did a kit I got in my surprise gift at quilt group last
week. It was called "10 minute table topper." They lie - it took
about an hour, and I didn't even have to cut the fabric! But it
was really easy, and I will definitely do more, and maybe even
teach some ladies at church how to do this. And maybe my quilt
group.
