Bare Toes and other casual attire
By: sandisadie Date: May 20, 2024, 6:30 pm

What does anyone think about an older adult male (or even a
younger one) going to their doctor appointment with their bare
toes hanging out the front of a pair of sandals? The person that
I witnessed had long, unkempt toenails too. This is a family
member, but I'm sure it's not my place to comment on his choice
of clothing. I think, though, that he should have had socks on
       with his sandals.

I don't see anything wrong with sandals without socks. Unkept
toenails are a different story---for any age or gender, unless
the person is physically unable to take care of the issue. I've
heard that some diabetics will go to the doctor to have their
nails done, but I've never known anyone who did that.
I've worn sandals to doctor appointments several times. I have
some issues with my feet, and I've had very badly swollen ankles
from a staph infection. It was much easier than dealing with
taking off/putting on socks. My feet are clean, and my toenails
are kept well (but not painted).

I reckon that anyone planning to reveal their bare toes in
public owes it to society to make sure they are reasonably clean
and decent. But there’s surely no dress code for a doctor’s
appointment; if it’s a hot day and you would normally be going
about your business in sandals, I don’t see any reason to put
       shoes on instead.

I have no issue with bare toes for either sex as long as the
nails look presentable and the style of shoe is appropriate for
the occasion. I see nothing wrong in either gender going to a
medical appointment in shorts, tshirt and sandals.
(I'd rather see bare toes than socks with sandals. I've always
       thought it looks silly.)

Some people have issues (like medical) that their nails are
yellow or brittle. As long as they are clean and not smelly, I
don't have a problem with it. I rarely look at people's feet
       though.

I agree with everything in this post especially that sandals
       with socks looks silly.
Since this was an older man, I would assume he has some health
issues that effect his toenails and may effect his ability to
       care for them.

Going to the doctor? It allows the doctor to spot potential
problems (maybe the patient is unable to trim his nails, or
maybe he has a nail fungus).
I'm positive the doctor has seen worse!

I'm agreeing with everybody else here. Especially about going to
a Dr. appt. Being diabetic I never wear socks to my appts.
because they do a foot-check and it is easier that taking
       off/putting on socks.
Even if the toenails might have been a bit unsightly due to a
fungus or something like that, hopefully they were clean.

You may not have perfect toenails. But, if you're going to go
bare toed, they should at least be trimmed and your feet clean.

I don't have a problem with people wearing sandals without
socks. I don't see why that should bother you either. Now, if
their toenails aren't well groomed or properly cared for, then
       that's bad.
