It's unfortunate that some of your coworkers have been laid off.
       That's always a difficult situation!
However, their layoffs have ZERO to do with your raise. The two
       things are completely unrelated.
You deserved and were way overdue for that raise. Full Stop.
Those people got laid off for whatever reason that you are not
privy to. Maybe they were not performing to standard. Maybe the
work they were doing is no longer profitable. Maybe maybe maybe.
But whatever the reason, it's not because they gave you a raise.

       I agree with lowspark.
Even *IF* the layoffs were strictly for money saving purposes,
it IS NOT because you got a raise/bonus.
Unless, of course, your raise/bonus was equal to those 6 annual
       earnings. (read sarcasm)

Thank you for your comments about my raise not being related to
the layoffs. There's a whole lot of changing going on in my
organization. Some difficult (layoffs), some good (not doing
piddly work anymore). It's going to take some time getting used
to, but I'm up for the challenge of change.
       Exciting news . . . I received notice today that I actually
received a promotion! To Senior graphic designer.
In a previous post on this thread I told you that BB said "AND!
She said, come April, when we get our mid-year renewal budget "I
promise that you will be happy."
Oh. I'm happy. Over-the-moon happy. This promotion came with
       quite a hefty raise.
Funny -- during our conversation, BB said "People tend to work
harder once they've been promoted. Pleased don't do that. You
should have been in this position years ago. I'm sorry it took
so long but keep doing what you've been doing, and all is good."
Thank you all for listening/reading my saga of woe and giving me
wonderful advice along the way. It finally has a happy ending!

I've been following along and wanted to say Congratulations!
That is great news! In the beginning, I thought they were just
stringing you along, but you persevered. I don't know that I
would have had as much patience as you, but I'm so happy you
were rewarded for it (and for all of your hard work!). Although
I can't do it physically, in my mind I'm doing the Toyota jump
       for you! YAY!
