Year-end review question . . . follow-up on "My Promotion&q
uot; thread. UPDATE #8, #12
By: jpcher Date: August 9, 2024, 2:48 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Sigh. Since I last posted there has been yet another change in
management. Not my boss, nor her boss (BB) but BB's boss
(UberBoss). This happened about a month ago.
A couple of weeks ago I had a 1:1 with my boss. I asked her
about the status of my promotion. She apologized and said that
with the new management change she's really not sure. She also
stated BB was meeting with UberBoss and that she would talk to
BB about it.
BB called me last week. She started the call with "I'm so sorry
this is taking so long, but I'm really pushing for you. UberBoss
seems to be a people-person, all about her employees. I have
hope." She then went on to interview me about my entire 40+ year
work history. She finished with saying "I've got your back. If I
had the power, you would have been elevated years ago." (I guess
elevated is the now-term for promoted LOL!)
BB went on to say "It might be tomorrow, next week or maybe
three weeks from now, who knows, but I will personally call you
and let you know as soon as I know."
Big sigh. Still waiting.
Thanks for listening to my saga.

Back again with another update for anyone out there still
listening. (So sad to see this site loose so much participation
of old friends that I've talked to for many years :'()
I had a meeting with Boss and BB yesterday. BB started out by
apologizing for this taking so long to come to fruition and
wanted to let me know that "I've got you covered. You are my
number one priority, out of all the people I manage, for
receiving a promotion. I didn't want to keep you in the dark,
there's a lot of BS (she didn't use the acronym LOL!) background
work that needs to be done and felt the need to tell you that I
haven't forgotten about you."
She went on to say that she got confirmation that morning that I
will be receiving an X% raise (NICE!) and apologized that that
was the ceiling, she wished she could do more. AND! She said,
come April, when we get our mid-year renewal budget "I promise
that you will be happy."
I wish I could have recorded that conversation. But, after that
phone meeting I feel more confidently hopeful (if that makes
sense) that this will finally happen. I do think that she's got
me covered.
Corporate bureaucracy leaves me befuddled at times. Sigh.

So glad you got a raise! After this long, it was well deserved.
I firmly believe the corporate bureaucracy that "ties their
hands" or in any way delays reviews and raises is put there with
the intention of saving them money. At one of my last jobs, it
was a standing joke that reviews were put off for MONTHS!!!
They were supposed to be done within a week of the anniversary
of your hiring date. We got a new vice president around the
same time my review (which was the only time you could be
considered for a raise) was more than 3 months overdue. This
vice president went to each office and talked to most of us
individually, wanting to know any concerns or complaints we had.
I mentioned that delay and the fact that it was a standing
joke. Amazingly, a whole bunch of reviews started happening the
very next week.
Shocking!!!!

Today is almost the end of the year. I hope you are covered
like a blanket. After a few years of waiting the end seems to
be in sight.

So very sorry! That sucks, but maybe they are not performing at
the level you are? Please don't blame yourself, the raise or the
bonus. You earned every thing you are recieving, and don't ever
let that make you feel guilty! Hugs and love to you, because I
know how hard it is to lose coworkers that you are fond of.
