If you end up needing an alternative to corn, how about a veggie
tray?

Suggestions for a casual bbq that grew . . . UPDATE #11

Thanks, everybody! Just thought I'd update you on how things
went.
It turned out to be two groups: first family and a bunch of
friends then, later, another group of friends showed up when
most family members left. Which actually worked out well because
most all of the food was gone!
Apps: LadyStark your dip was a hit. I was able to put less than
1/2 away during clean-up of the first shift, but served the rest
for the second shift. It was all gone very quickly.
Sliders: I prepared 6 pans, two of each type. For the first
shift I baked 3 pans and kept an eye out as to should I put more
in the oven? By the time everyone had their fill there was only
1/2 of one pan left. I baked the other 3 pans when the second
shift of the party showed up and there was a little bit less
than one pan left over.
Salads: DD#2 made two large batches of the BLT salad, fully
intending for BFbob to be able to take one batch home for his
lunches the next week. Nope. Whatever was leftover DD#1 and
BFsam ate for breakfast the next morning. Cucumber salad? After
the first shift there was such a small amount leftover I didn't
even serve it for the second shift. Potato salad? I hid a small
bowl away so that I could have some of it the next day ;). Good
thing I did because after the second shift there was very little
left.
Corn on the cob: This is where I failed. I had the big pot
steaming (10 ears, cut in half) on the stove, and forgot to open
the lid and provide serving tongs. Nobody ate the corn (gee I
wonder why? ::)) Then it was sitting out too long so I didn't
even serve it for the second shift. Good thing it was cheap! And
the squirrels were very happy. ;D
All in all it was a great party. The two shifts were easy
because everything was already prepared. Easy-peasy! ;D
Thanks for your suggestions.
